Job Summary
The Administrative Security Sergeant provides supervision to the security department while managing staff schedule, payroll, investigating incidents, training staff, and coordinating changes as requested by hospital leadership. The Administrative Security Sergeant is responsible for the safety and security of hospital grounds as well as of employees, patients and visitors. Must be aware of all hospital codes and be able to respond appropriately. Security Sergeants work alongside clinical staff in the care of patients, specifically patients that present a safety / security risk to staff and visitors.
Working Environment
- General environment: Works in a well-lighted, air-conditioned area, with moderate noise levels.
- May be exposed to dust/particulate matter.
- May be exposed to extreme conditions, (i.e. heat or cold).
- May be exposed to high noise levels and bright lights.
- May be exposed to limited hazardous substances or body fluids, or infectious organisms.
- May be exposed to moving mechanical parts.

- May be scheduled as needed, including overtime.
- May perform emergency care, such as BLS/CPR.

Job Roles
SECURITY OFFICER Proficiency Level
DEPARTMENTAL EQUIPMENT:
Maintains security equipment, i.e. walkie talkies, security vehicle, uniform, keys, metal detection, building monitors, access control, etc.
EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT:
Aware of all Hospital Codes and able to act on them appropriately. Codes: Red, Yellow, Gold, Pink, Green, Silver and Orange. Coordinates efforts between law enforcement/first responders and hospital staff.
SAFETY AND SECURITY:
Handle patient valuables and lost and found property. Investigate complaints and submit reports, issue permits, cite parking violators and two vehicles. Monitor the campus and report safety issues / concerns to the appropriate parties.
ADMINISTRATIVE SECURITY SUPPORT:
Reviews and submits incident reports while also coordinating any necessary investigation or required follow up. Conducts audits of various security systems and coordinates access control functions. Assists in the coordination and execution of security drills and exercises. Manages all aspects of departmental uniforms, equipment, supplies, scheduling, and payroll.
SECURITY OFFICER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Understands and demonstrates how to properly investigate complaints and calls for service, including combative patients and visitors. Manages parking and traffic control, including permits, citations and towing. Follows the proper procedure for the release of dead bodies, handling of forensic patients, and moving of medical records, lab samples or any other protected information. Issues temporary access badges, and/or keys to hospital staff and appropriately handles visitor identification Investigates suspicious behavior and works with law enforcement agencies during criminal events and investigations
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR SECURITY DEPARTMENT:
Acts as a liaison to other departments, working cooperatively with other leaders to share pertinent security and emergency information Manages staffing schedule to assures coverage is adequate and provides necessary training to staff as needed Directs security staff and provides performance feedback Knows special responsibility with regard to Emergency Management and demonstrates appropriate response to codes Responds and/or reports to hospital when requested for emergencies
