Contra Costa County aims to improve the environmental, social and economic conditions that contribute to poor health, and support a quality of life that promotes the health and well-being of all county residents, with special attention to those underserved.
The Contra Costa County Health Services Department is offering an excellent career opportunity to qualified individuals interested in the Infection Prevention and Control Program Manager position. There are currently two vacant positions. One position is assigned to Contra Costa Regional Medical Center located in Martinez, CA, and the second position is assigned to the West County Detention Facility located in Richmond, CA.
The Infection Prevention and Control Program Managers are responsible for planning, managing and coordinating the multiple facets of the Infection Prevention and Control Programs of Contra Costa County at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center (covering the hospital and health centers), or at West County Detention. These positions provide oversight of and responsibility for Infection Control Policies and standards of patient care; establish and monitor improvement projects; actively participate in quality related activities; formulate and direct in-service education for nursing and ancillary personnel; patient education programs; participate in special assignments and projects; and perform related work as requested or assigned.
Infection Prevention and Control Program Managers are also responsible for Risk Assessments required anytime construction, renovation and maintenance or significant work involving alteration or replacement of building system is performed that creates dust or impacts environmental conditions that could affect health and increase infection risk, such as disruption of water or ventilation system; demolition or construction activities creating dust; interference with patients, care providers or supply pathways through the building; and when replacing surfacing materials and equipment.
Detention Health Services provides healthcare to clients in Contra Costa County's Detention System. Clients receive health screenings, including both physical and mental health. Detention Health Services ensures healthcare needs are provided to clients in the detention system, while embedding the culture of process improvement.
These positions report to Directors of Nursing at CCRMC or Detention Health. The Infection Prevention and Control Program Manager position located at the hospital may be assigned on-call.

What you will typically be responsible for:
Developing, maintaining and monitoring standards of patient care and staff compliance that are consistent with current accepted infection prevention and control recommendations
Planning and developing strategies or methods to minimize the risk of transmission of infection
Educating employees and physicians on the most recent scientific information appropriate to infection prevention and control principles, practices and precautions
Consulting on infection control issues related to patient groups, communities, units, departments and divisions.
Interpreting, monitoring and implementing guidelines and legislative regulations from Title 22, JCAHO, OSHA, CDC, CDPH, etc.
Providing oversight and implementation of the employee health program, including the provision of Hepatitis B and Influenza Immunizations, TB Screening and Mask Fit Testing
Management of post blood/body fluid exposures; provide other employee health services as required, including investigation and follow-up of employee exposure to communicable disease

Minimum Qualifications:
License / Certification Required: Candidates must possess and maintain throughout the duration of employment: a current, valid and unrestricted Registered Nurse license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing; AND a valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or CPR certification issued by the American Red Cross

Education: Possession of a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Five years of full-time experience, or its equivalent, as a Registered Nurse in an acute care hospital OR in a public health setting, one year of which was in the capacity of a Charge Nurse, Supervisor or Lead Nurse.
Substitution: Possession of a Master's Degree in Nursing may be substituted for one year of qualifying experience. There is no substitution for the year of lead or supervisory experience.
Desirable Qualifications:
Experience using Microsoft Teams, Zoom and Skype
Experience in public speaking, and comfortable educating patients or employees
Experience in working with a multi-disciplinary team
Experience in using electronic health records
Experience with infection prevention and control practices
Experience with program creation, implementation, and management
