GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Pediatrician works as part of the Patient Care Team to provide professional, team-based medical care. Under supervision of the Medical Director, the Pediatrician plays a critical role in the delivery of quality, patient- centered medical care within the context of a federally qualified community health center (FQHC). The Physician provides direct patient care services and performs specifically designated independent procedures as applicable with his/her scope of practice.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Communicates with patients and visitors in a courteous and professional manner and addresses questions and needs with sensitivity to patient confidentiality, cultural diversity, and individualized requirements for assistance.
Willingly cooperates and shares information, knowledge, and expertise in carrying out the objectives of the Patient Care Team.
Addresses patient concerns and assists patients with conflict and problem resolution.
Takes initiative and accepts accountability as a patient advocate and promotes patient satisfaction.
Develops a plan of care for each patient, including complete medical history, physical examination, diagnosis, and appropriate treatment and referral.
Stresses the importance of preventative healthcare measures and serves as a patient educator.
Uses available resources for diagnosis and treatment, such as laboratory and radiological testing, in an appropriate and cost-efficient manner.
Confers with consulting physicians, nurses, patients, and family members concerning treatment and care of patients.
Refers those cases that require specialist services, but maintains responsibility, ensuring that continuity of care is provided.
Prescribes medications according to therapeutic goals and explains treatment to patients and families.
Collaborates with the Medication Assistance Caseworker to promote the Medication Assistance Program and communicate with patients in regards to the program.
Collaborates with the clinical support staff and front office staff and utilizes the EMR modules to monitor, prioritize, and ensure a smooth patient flow with minimal wait times.
Documents all clinical activities and patient interactions in electronic health record.
Performs other necessary duties as required by the Medical Director to meet the needs of the care team in the delivery of primary healthcare services.
Participates in a formal “on call” after-hours arrangement as scheduled by the Medical Director.
PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT ACTIVITIES
Participates in the Health Centers' performance improvement activities and performs duties in accordance with applicable standards.

Monitors Quality Control.
Serves on committees related to safety, risk management/quality improvement as requested.

Attends provider meetings and staff meetings as scheduled.
Participates in quarterly peer review activities.
SAFETY AND INFECTION CONTROL ACTIVITIES
Ensures an appropriate environment for the administration of healthcare by maintaining supervision of the environment of care including exam rooms, nurses’ station, equipment, and other work areas in a clean, safe, and orderly fashion.
Assumes personal responsibility for Infection Control and Bloodborne Pathogen precautions to protect patients, Healthcare staff, visitors, and self from risk of exposure.
TEAM BASED CARE MODEL
Participates in daily huddles and PCMH team meetings to communicate and collaborate on patient issues and needs.
Oversees PMCH provider-led team; participating in quality care activities including pre-visit planning, ensuring compliance with quality measures, and other quality initiatives.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The Pediatrician reports to and is supervised by the Medical Director. The Health Center Providers will provide clinical leadership for nurses in the implementation and delivery of the Plan of Care. The Physician shall serve as a Supervising Physician to health center Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants.
EVALUATION
The evaluation of work performance will be on-going, will be carried out by the Medical Director and will include the specific duties and responsibilities of this position description plus employee attitudes and general working behavior. Formal evaluations performed annually, but may be initiated at other times by the Medical Director. Participates in peer review “360” feedback for evaluations as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must be licensed with Virginia Board of Medicine.
Sufficient experience and skills necessary to perform the duties of this position.
Must be qualified in Basic Life Support techniques.
Ability to relate with warmth and effectiveness to staff, patients and other providers.
