Job Summary:
The Division of Hematology, Medical Oncology and Palliative Care seeks an academic clinician in Bone Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy to join our team. We are looking for candidates with a track record of clinical excellence and academic contributions as demonstrated through training and/or practice experience in caring for patients undergoing stem cell transplantation and other cellular therapies, and excellent research achievement.
Leadership opportunity as the facility director of Stem Cell Processing Facility within our stem cell transplant cellular therapy program.
Specifically, we seek a clinical and translational researcher with interest in areas such as post-transplant immunological complications, use of novel cellular therapies for cancer treatment, and use of bone marrow stem cells in transplant and regenerative medicine. The academic clinician will be expected to engage in active collaborative research and build clinical and/or translational research in the division and obtain/maintain independent extramural funding.

Our stem cell transplant program has been FACT accredited since 2001, performing about 140-180 SCT yearly (60-70 allo-SCT yearly and 80-100 auto-SCT year) in recent years. We are a certified treatment center for all the FDA-approved commercial CART products for ALL, variety of lymphomas and multiple myeloma. Our CART patient volume had been doubling in the past 3 years, and we anticipate reaching 80-100 CART treatments per year with further growth in the coming years. In addition, we are actively participating in significant number of consortium and industry-sponsored cell therapy trials. We are conducting novel investigator-initiated therapeutic trials such as using alpha/beta T cell depleted haploidentical transplantation for the treatment of relapsed pediatric neuroblastoma and sarcomas. Our program is also developing institutional cell therapy trials including CRISPR/Cas9 generated CAR T cells for solid tumors and CNS malignancies, and ex vivo activated/expanded NK cells to treat neuroblastoma and osteogenic sarcoma, alpha/beta T cell and B cell depleted prophylactic donor lymphocyte infusion to prevent disease relapse after allo-SCT for patients with high risk of disease relapse. Additional investigator-initiated trials will be planned in collaboration with the excellent basic and translational researchers within the division, department and the institution.

Duties include direct patient care, including ambulatory, inpatient and consult service; (60%)
* Opportunity to serve as facility director of Stem Cell Processing Facility given qualifications/interest (effort to be allocated)
* Duties also include inpatient call coverage and may include outreach service at approved UW Health locations

The successful candidate will participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health. An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.
Clinical research is conducted in the UWCCC by 18 multi-disciplinary Disease Oriented Teams and is supported by the UWCCC Clinical Research Central Office on the main campus. Over 170 UWCCC investigators regularly enroll patients to therapeutic intervention trials at our UWCCC clinical sites. UW is an affiliate member of the BMT Clinical Trials Network and a member of the NCCN, ECOG- ACRIN, Alliance, BigTen Cancer Research Consortium, Wisconsin Oncology Network (WON) and Wisconsin Association of Hematology and Oncology (WAHO).
The Division of Hematology/Medical Oncology & Palliative Care is part of the Department of Medicine and the NCI-designated UW Carbone Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Division is active in all phases of cancer research, from prevention, screening, cancer therapy, development and evaluation, survivorship and palliative care. MD, DO or equivalent
Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited fellowship training program in hematology and/or medical oncology.
Experience in clinical, translational or basic science research, with a track record of successful publications in peer reviewed journals, strong written and verbal communication skills, commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, evidence of excellence in teaching and current or high potential to obtain extramural funding. Through these efforts, the ability to enhance national recognition for our division and the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center.
For appointment at Associate Professor or Professor rank on CHS Track, candidates will meet criteria established by the department and as outlined in the School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for promotion or appointment to Associate or Professor on the CHS Track.
