SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Responsible for working with Clinical teams across Penn State Health and Supply Chain Departments to ensure that the strategic vision of the organization is supported through evidence-evaluation of clinical supply, contract compliance, standardization, and supply cost containment. Enhances the direct involvement of clinical staff in the value analysis process in order to improve the outcomes of product selection and implementation by increasing participation of clinical leaders and staff. Evaluates the clinical and financial benefits from strategic sourcing initiatives, new products, and trials. Supports backorder and patient safety incident resolution with identification and recommendation of clinically acceptable alternatives. Leverages the culture of continuous improvement to enhance and develop the value analysis program. The individual will work collaboratively with physicians, clinicians, health system leadership, vendors, and other key leaders and stakeholders at Penn State Health.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: The percentage of time spent performing essential functions is 95%. Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:
Investigates new or alternative products / services based on observations, clinical effectiveness research, quality and cost.
Conducts evidenced based research on each product being evaluated and presents findings in a clear concise fashion. Product reviews to include but not limited to: Evidence Based Practice Research, Financial Implications, FDA Disposition, Infection Control Implications and Capital Implications.
Supports education and training required for new product introduction and conversions. Identifies opportunities for cost savings related to improved product, service and process standardization and utilization that either improves or maintains patient care.
Develops and maintains professional working relationships; utilizes networking and teambuilding skills to accomplish goals and meet customer and team needs.
Support / lead Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) projects and is supportive of GPO contracts and processes.
Facilitates and coordinates agenda for Clinical Quality Value Analysis teams.
Supports backorder management through the identification of alternative, safe, clinically equivalent products.
Strong understanding of project management, lean concepts, and process improvement activities and tools.
Perform financial analysis by measuring, monitoring, and analyzing usage and expenditures.
Provides benchmarking expertise and information.
Makes decisions on emergent issues expeditiously, while considering needs of various stakeholders.
Ensures that products, services and systems selected comply with established hospital policies and procedures and end user requirements.
Ensures that all product, service, trials and evaluations are unbiased and conducted in a professional manner. Develops and distributes launch brief packages inclusive of communications, required conversion product crosswalks, required training/education, in-service documentation, and implementation checklists, as appropriate.
Designs, implements and ensures compliance with protocols for the optimal, standardized use of selected products, services and processes in collaboration with appropriate department managers
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):
Bachelor?s degree in nursing or equivalent experience required
Three (3) years of nursing experience
Currently licensed to practice as a registered nurse by state of employment or holds a multistate RN license through the interstate Nurse Licensure Compact
Basic Life Support (BLS)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):
Previous experience as a skilled facilitator
Lean certified; Kaizen event leader, green belt, or black belt
