RUSH University Medical Center, a nationally recognized clinical and academic institution and the teaching hospital for RUSH Medical and Nursing Colleges, located in downtown Chicago, invites applications for the position of Faculty Advisor.
Faculty Advisors provide longitudinal support to their students via recurrent individual and community meetings and create a sense of belonging and camaraderie through social events. Advisors receive professional development training from MSA leadership to ensure they are well equipped to provide high quality advice regarding the adjustment to medical college, wellness and balance, extracurricular opportunities, research, specialty selection, and the match process.
Goal:
Provide high quality, longitudinal, individualized advising support to a cohort of RMC students
Responsibilities:
Address the advising needs of students as they progress from matriculation to graduation
Supervise:
Strategic oversight of:
- Individualized student advising meetings
- Function of their Longitudinal Advising Community
Report to: Assistant Dean of Medical Student Affairs Advising, RMC
Oversee and direct programs and services in the following broad areas:
- Longitudinal Advising Community Events
- Annual Orientation and Kick-off
- Advisory Community Meetings, Quarterly
- Faculty Advisor Development sessions, bimonthly
- RMC events: welcome picnic, White Coat Ceremony, OIME, Happy Hours, Holiday Parties, Match Day, Graduation
- Advising Community social and service events
- All-Advisory social events
- Individual Student Meetings
- Semi-annual individual meetings with all advisees
- Additional ad hoc individual meetings as needed, including support for Early Intervention Committee and Committee on Student Promotion, exit/re-entry planning for Leave of Absence students, and support during for SOAP for any unmatched students
- Asynchronous advising activities
- Networking with RUMC colleagues to arrange for research and shadowing opportunities), collaboration with other RMC personnel regarding students
- Administrative/documentation: scheduling: 1:1 meetings; reviewing pre-meeting survey responses; note writing in MedLeaders; planning social events (reservations, invites, logistics); XM reimbursement requests; coordinating with peer advisors; completing feedback modules for program improvement; communication with MSA leadership; creating faculty profile for peer advisor e-book
- Residency application support: reviewing CVs, personal statements, and applications; writing recommendation letters
