Overview: The Virtualization Platform Services
department designs, implements, and manages virtualized environments that
support critical organizational operations. Our team specializes in
virtualization technologies, and server consolidation to ensure scalable and
efficient computing solutions. Undergraduate interns will gain hands-on
experience with virtualization platforms such as VMware or Hyper-V, assist in
system performance monitoring and troubleshooting, and participate in
configuration, deployment, and optimization projects. This role provides a
unique opportunity to develop technical skills in a dynamic and collaborative
environment while contributing to impactful infrastructure solutions.
Potential Projects: Potential projects and activities
include: datacenter visits, annual audits, inventory updates, CMDB
consolidation, Wiki designs, project documentation, automation, and system
discovery.
Department: Mobile Device Team

Overview: The UCLA Health IT Mobile Device Team is
responsible for managing mobile devices and providing user support across the
Enterprise, which includes the Hospital, DGSOM, FPG, and Campus. Our team
utilizes UCLA’s MDM software to effectively manage devices and ensure seamless
functionality, while also troubleshooting issues related to hardware and MDM
software. We oversee the procurement and management of mobile devices for the
Enterprise and provide support for various platforms, including iOS, Android,
and Windows.
Potential Projects: The onboarding of residents, medical
students, and fellows brings a significant influx of new devices, including the
distribution of iPhones and pagers, as well as the return of old devices. The
intern will play a key role in supporting this process, ensuring a smooth and
efficient transition for all incoming users.
Department: Office of Environmental Health & Safety

Overview: The Office of Environmental Health &
Safety (EH&S) provides consultation and training services, develops and
monitors safety programs and procedures, and responds to health and safety
service requests. EH&S has oversight responsibility for fire and life safety,
hazardous materials use and disposal, general safety and ergonomics, and
environmental compliance, and supports Emergency Management, Utilities, and
Security-related activities. In addition, the Office of Environmental Health
& Safety ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, and local
health and safety and environmental regulations and standards.
Potential Projects: Overhaul of EH&S programs, which
include Hazardous Materials & Waste, Fire Safety, Injury Prevention,
Ergonomics, Radiation Safety, and Respiratory Protection. This will consist of
program development, policy revision, client engagement initiatives, and
related administrative work. Additionally, the intern shall participate in
drills, and trainings and will shadow all divisions and department
administration.

Overview: Advanced Analytics is the in-house data
science team within the Office of Health Informatics & Analytics (OHIA) at
UCLA Health. The intern will be involved with supporting the development,
evaluation, and exploration of new machine learning (ML) and artificial
intelligence (AI) tools to support UCLA Health. Additionally, the intern will
be involved in responsible AI and governance activities to ensure the safety
and reliability of AI deployed in the health system
Potential Projects: Summer interns are encouraged to
participate in projects of their interest on OHIA’s Project roadmap. Projects
available can be in areas of analytics delivery, data governance, AI usage,
cloud strategy, and more.

Overview: The OHIA ML Engineering team is directly
involved in all aspects of the AI/ML lifecycle, from interfacing with data
scientists, writing code for production, and monitoring, maintaining, and
retraining existing production models. The team uses a combination of SQL,
Python, and Java for their software development and ML projects. The OHIA ML
Engineering team also is responsible for developing and socializing OHIA’s
MLOps practices across the UCLA Health IT (UHIT) organization.
Potential Projects: Summer interns are encouraged to

Overview: The Operations intern will report to the
Operations Manager of the Hospital Administration team. The shadowing
opportunities include daily operations, biweekly data transparency, bi-weekly
strategy development involving planning process for the new Mid-Wilshire
Hospital.
Potential Projects: The undergraduate intern will assist
the hospital administration leadership team with projects related to the move
to the new Mid-Wilshire Hospital. Their focus will be on strategic initiatives,
collaborating with various departments, and working alongside different
interdisciplinary team members

Overview: The team is in charge of computing and Data
Infrastructure for clinical and research analytics use cases, which include
High-Performance Computing (HPC), Artificial Intelligence, (AI), Machine
Learning (ML), etc. The team is comprised of Application Developer, Architects,
and Engineers. The team is responsible for the core foundational Cloud
platforms and Evaluating technology concepts, Architecting Solutions, building
environments, Developing APIs, and applications, and also developing integrated
solutions for the vast clinical and research use cases and initiatives.
