Job Summary:

This position supports the Department of Pathology, Microbiology, and Immunology (PMI) as well as the Vanderbilt Institute for Infection, Immunology and Inflammation (VI4). The Communication Specialist supports the Department and Institute's communications, including digital content creation, social media strategy, and maintenance of websites. Additionally, a key responsibility for this role is the management of a media studio, which is used by faculty and trainees to host virtual seminars, record lectures, and other asynchronous presentations. The Communication Specialist coordinates and mentors graduate students who participate in the PMI/VI4 Communications Internship.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist faculty, students, and staff in creating educational/research videos on the studio.

• Design graphics for flyers and digital banners for department seminars.

• Create, edit, and produce high-quality media content, including photography and videography, tailored for the department's communication needs.

• Oversee the department's media studio, ensuring equipment is maintained, organized, and operational, while managing studio requests, scheduling, and resource coordination for media production support.

• Maintain copy and graphics on all department websites.

• Serves as communications liaison for programs and event to internal and external audiences.

• Works with department leadership to develop a marketing and communications strategy.

• Collaborate with staff on new ideas and best practices for communications
