Overview
Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is the largest hospital in Missouri and is ranked as one of the nation's top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. Barnes-Jewish Hospital's staff is composed of full-time academic faculty and community physicians of Washington University School of Medicine, supported by a house staff of residents, interns, fellows and other medical professionals. Recognizing its excellence in nursing care, Barnes-Jewish Hospital was the first adult hospital in Missouri to be certified as a Magnet Hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
The security division of the Barnes-Jewish Hospital Department of Public Safety concentrates on the safety and security of patients, visitors, and staff within the hospital and on campus. The department provides field officers, Bike and mobile patrol, investigators, and a communication unit for monitoring alarm systems and dispatching officers to service and emergency calls. All officers are required to complete annual training that focuses on health care security.

Role Purpose
Responsible for the general management and accountability of public safety officers at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, and multiple, off site, locations. This includes budget planning, organizing, staffing, directing and controlling all personnel and activities in both areas within the framework and programs established by BJH and other off site locations.
Responsibilities
Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: hires, trains, assigns work, manages & evaluates performance, conducts professional development plans. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.
Develops and adheres to departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets. Responds to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.
Demonstrates current and accurate knowledge of mitigating crisis situations such as code responses, responding to disturbances, fires and disaster drills and situations.
Sets strategic direction and ensures necessary resources are in place to support each departments' goals. Develops long range security plan, modifies existing security practices and develops new security policies and protocols as needed.
Ensures that multiple facilities operate according to environmental and regulatory compliance codes and guidelines to protect the organization from liability, licensure and accreditation deficiencies and penalties.
Regularly attend and represent the Department of Public Safety at regulatory compliance meetings at each facility. Lead and collaborate with committee leaders in a variety of hospital committees stretched across multiple locations.
Oversee and assist investigations unit, including decisions and recommendations regarding the outcome of various patient abuse investigations.
