POSITION SUMMARY: The Major Gift Officer (MGO) reports directly to the Chief Development Officer (CDO) of the St. Vincent Hospital Foundation. The MGO is responsible for fundraising and development activities of the Foundation and to ensure a comprehensive fundraising program on behalf of CHRISTUS St. Vincent (CSV). In addition, the MGO will work closely with the CDO and the Foundation Board of Directors as they take on fundraising campaigns. The MGO helps forge new relationships to build the Foundation?s impact, and financial resources through major gift solicitation. The MGO will participate in the design and implementation to formulate and implement strategies for raising major gifts in the ranges of $50,000 to $250,000 by cultivating individuals and philanthropic support through varies channels. The MGO has responsibility for supporting the CDO and Foundation Board/Hospital-established annual goals through the solicitation of major gifts, corporate and foundation giving. S/he is responsible for expanding and diversifying the Foundation?s donor base/pipeline and works closely with other team members to secure funding for new initiatives that are in alignment with the priorities of CSV. It is expected that the amount raised by the Foundation will offset 100% of its operating costs and that its overall fundraising goals will increase as the CDO systematically and effectively strengthens the organization's overall fundraising capacity.

Must be a proven leader with great vision, a dynamic personality and have the ability to converse on a variety of topics while addressing large or small gatherings of individuals, and generally, comfortable in any kind of group or individual setting
Must also possess a strong level of comfort working with and addressing physicians, nurses, other medical personnel, and major donors
Must be able to participate in the development and implementation of a strategic plan for the Foundation and CSV through developing sources of continuing support from grateful patients and families, individuals, foundations and corporations
Must also work closely with Foundation Board members to identify prospects and develop suitable fund-raising approaches for individuals, organizations and businesses
Must be able to represent the organization to a variety of community organizations and to the general public
Must demonstrate behavior consistent with the mission and core values of the St. Vincent Hospital Foundation and of CSV
Health care industry experience helpful
Tangible experience of having expanded and cultivated existing donor relationships over time
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships
Strong organizational skills
Flexible and adaptable style; a leader who can positively impact both strategic and tactical fundraising initiatives
Ability to work both independently without close oversight, but also as a team player who will productively engage with others at varying levels of seniority within and outside CSV
High energy and passion for CSV?s mission is essential

EXPERIENCE:
MGO I ? 2 to 3 years of experience in sales, business development and or philanthropy settings. Experience in solicitation and closing gifts in ranges of $25,000-$50,000. 35% of time allocated to major gift work or solicitation activities.
MGO II ? 3-7 years of experience in sales, business development and or philanthropy. Experience in volunteer management, supervision and soliciting and closing gifts in the ranges of $50,000 to $100,000. 50% of time allocated to major gift work and solicitation.
MGO III ? 7+ years of experience in sales, business development and or philanthropy. Experience in managing relationships, portfolio size of 100-150 prospects and soliciting and closing gifts in the ranges of $150,000+. 75% of time allocated to major gift works and solicitation activities.
NATURE OF SUPERVISION:
RESPONSIBLE TO: The MGO is a direct report to the Chief Development Officer of CHRISTUS St. Vincent.
ENVIRONMENT: Works in a clean, well-lighted, ventilated smoke-free environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Subject to stressful professional relationships. Working hours vary, with flexibility due to unexpected changes in schedule and emergencies. Requires the ability to speak, listen, develop and communicate written materials.Frequent prolonged periods of sitting. Extensive use of hands for writing and use of computer. Moderate physical effort (able to lift/carry up to 25 pounds).
