Position Overview: Children’s Specialty Group (CSG) at Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters (CHKD) in Norfolk, Virginia is seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and highly skilled Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our team. In this vital role, you will provide exceptional care to pediatric patients with a variety of hematological and oncological conditions, working alongside an interdisciplinary team of specialists to improve patient outcomes and enhance the overall care experience for families.
As a Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurse Practitioner at CHKD, you will play a key role in the management, treatment, and follow-up of pediatric patients diagnosed with blood disorders and cancer. This position offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic, supportive environment focused on providing the highest quality of care to children in need.
Responsibilities:
Provide direct patient care to pediatric hematology and oncology patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Perform comprehensive assessments, including physical examinations, diagnostic testing, and treatment planning.
Collaborate with attending physicians, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team to develop and implement individualized care plans.
Order and interpret diagnostic tests, manage medications, and provide patient and family education regarding diagnosis, treatment options, and ongoing care needs.
Serve as an advocate for patients and families, offering emotional support and guidance throughout treatment processes.
Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, patient rounds, and case discussions.
Monitor patients' progress, adjust care plans as necessary, and ensure continuity of care through all stages of treatment.
Provide guidance and mentorship to nursing staff and other clinical professionals.
Stay current with the latest advancements in pediatric hematology/oncology care through continuing education, research, and professional development.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications:
Master’s or Doctorate degree in Nursing with a focus on Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP).
Current Nurse Practitioner licensure in the state of Virginia or eligibility for licensure.
Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) certification or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) from a recognized national certification board.
Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in pediatric hematology/oncology or a related field strongly preferred.
Strong clinical assessment skills, critical thinking, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
