About the Role:
Job Summary
In collaboration with the Nursing Quality team, is responsible for review of clinical and regulatory requirements for nursing sensitive indicators (NSIs), sedation compliance, and other key quality outcomes within nursing. Provides formal reports to NGHS leadership around key nursing outcomes and compliance. Collaborates with NGHS leaders and nursing departments to provide performance improvement recommendations and guidance of evidence-based nursing practices. Participates in the development, revision, and annual review of nursing clinical order sets, policies, and procedures. Serves as a subject matter expert for sedation processes and compliance review. Collaborates with educators to provide guidance on content for education and competency needs. Collaborates with nursing leaders to promote nursing performance improvement support, participates in quality improvement projects, coordinates Nursing Quality Workgroups and Quality Champion program, and facilitates sedation quality improvement teams/meetings. Collaborates with the Nursing Quality team to gather and enter data into the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI). Develops presentations and dashboards for reporting nursing quality data in collaboration with RN Data Analysts. Provides nursing leaders with nursing quality data support and recommendations to support achievement of nursing quality metric targets. Assists nursing educators with reviewing and developing sedation education for patients and staff. Assists in the advancement of the nursing professional practice environment by communicating the NGMC nursing strategic direction and focusing on activities that support the nursing strategic direction. Assists with overall nursing governance and other projects as assigned. Participates in Professional Nursing Governance Council (PNGC), providing feedback on issues being addressed at meetings.
Minimum Job Qualifications
Licensure or other certifications: Licensed to practice as an RN in Georgia. Professional certification in either a clinical or education specialty within two (2) years. Professional organization membership within three (3) months of hire into the role.
Educational Requirements: Bachelors Degree in nursing (either BSN or MSN)
Minimum Experience: Three to five years experience in acute care.

Preferred Educational Requirements: Master's Degree (Nursing or other if possessing a BSN) within five (5) years
Preferred Experience: Previous experience in sedation and quality improvement.

Ability to complete special projects/reports requested by the Director of Nursing Quality, Executive Director of Nursing Excellence and Research, and/or the Chief Nurse Executive (CNE).

Facilitates collaboration with nursing, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members regarding sedation processes and other nursing quality initiatives.
Maintains required certifications specific to role.
Essential Tasks and Responsibilities
Assesses the current state of sedation against a standard established by anesthesia for all areas administering sedation both moderate/conscious and deep sedation including but not limited to IR, ED, Cath Lab, Critical Care, and Surgery departments.
Establishes plan for implementing changes that assure that sedation processes are standardized across the system.
Demonstrates knowledge of data collection and analysis.
Demonstrates effective leadership skills and is a role model for critical thinking and evidenced based nursing care.
Establishes criteria data for both concurrent and retrospective review to improve safety and quality care .
Serves as a role model and resource for providers and nursing staff.
Works collaboratively with department educators and Professional Development and Competency to recommend and support training and education content to improve nursing processes.
Works collaboratively with medical staff involved in sedation, utilizing anesthesia as the experts in the field, to establish and assure nursing processes for sedation are evidence-based.
Assures nursing processes established for sedation are compliant with regulatory and DNV standards.
Successfully completes mentoring class. Assists with mentoring of Registered Nurses when other mentor resources have been assigned. May mentor more as desired.
