We have an excellent career opportunity for a Senior Manager - Genetic Test Development to join our growing team in San Francisco, CA. This team is dedicated to bringing comprehensive genetic information into mainstream medicine to improve healthcare for millions of people.
Position Summary
The Senior Manager will be a representative for the molecular technologies group in multidisciplinary planning and development efforts.
This team supports and improves all existing germline genetic testing product lines fulfilled through the San Francisco Lab. The team enables the development of new tests and new product launches by partnering with the operations team for tech transfer, training, and validation. The team thrives in an open, collaborative environment and relies on technical leaders to provide guidance and expertise while fostering a learning and growth mindset for the team.
We are looking for an extraordinary Senior Scientist to join our team to assist our assay development and improvement efforts. The ideal candidate will have the ability to design and execute experiments on a variety of assay design and projects. You thrive in a fast-paced environment and can independently make decisions on how to iterate and progress on experiments. You have a proven track-record of developing and analyzing molecular genetic assays and solving complex biological problems. Importantly, you have a solid understanding of experimental design, and a broad understanding of different technologies used in diagnostic genetic testing. You want to make a difference by improving healthcare and are motivated to make it happen. You are collaborative and enjoy working with a strong team.
Education
Master?s degree and 5-8 years of experience required.
PhD and 3-5 years of experience preferred.
Experience
Industry and/or academic experience in molecular biology, genetics/genomics, biochemistry, or a related field.
Understanding of human genetics, particularly classes of genetic variation and their intersections with cutting edge molecular technologies. ·
Proven ability to design novel molecular biology assays, as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications, conference posters/talks, published patents, or launched products
Experimental design and execution of wet lab experiments for NGS workflows, including nucleic acid extraction, library preparation, target enrichment, sequencing, integrating workflows with lab automation, and assay troubleshooting
Comprehensive understanding of Illumina sequencing and downstream data QC and analysis
Demonstrated proficiency developing robust assays in a R&D setting with bonus points for experience with developing clinical products in a CLIA/CAP environment
Flexible and pragmatic problem-solving skills, with a rigorous and data-driven approach to troubleshooting
Experience with long-read technologies such as PacBio, Nanopore, and/or Bionano
Leadership by example, with an openness to ideas and collaborative style
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with liquid handling automation (e.g. Agilent Bravo, Hamilton STAR)
Ability to perform light-weight data analyses in Unix/Python environments
