Department Profile:
The Endoscopy Unit at Duke South Clinic is a procedural hospital-based clinic with 7 procedure rooms and 20 prep and recovery bays, caring for an average of 50 patients/day. This area has an advanced GI program. Our team is active in delivering exemplary care for each patient to ensure an excellent patient experience, every time.
Work Hours & Shifts:
4-10 hour shifts, on call required.
Preferred experience:
Med/Surg, Operating Room, PACU, ICU, Endoscopy, and/or Emergency Department experience preferred, but not required, for a high volume, high acuity endoscopy and pulmonary procedure unit. Procedures performed include: general GI procedures and pulmonary procedures as well as interventional procedures. Moderate sedation and strong IV skills also beneficial
Graduation from an accredited Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (or higher), Associate's Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program is required.
All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) will be required to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date and to complete the program within seven years of their start date
Nurses hired at Duke Health with a valid compact license are required to obtain their North Carolina nursing license within 90 days of their start date.
BLS required.

Knowledge of scope of the registered nurse, licensed practical nurse and NCA
Knowledge of and appropriate application of the nursing process

Ability to assess nursing needs of acute and chronically ill patients and their families.

Competent in BLS and/or other specialized life support requirements designated by work area or organization.

Ability to use computer and learn new software programs.
Ability to navigate the entity to provide clinical care for patients.
Ability to withstand prolonged standing and walking.
Ability to remain focused and organized.
Working knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in administering routine and special treatments to patients.
Working knowledge of infection control procedures and safety precautions
Working knowledge and completion of appropriate JCAHO and other regulatory requirements
