General Description of the Job Class
Implement and operationalize at the hospital, the Health System's strategic initiatives and Supply Chain programs related to supply chain services at the hospital to include distribution of supplies, logistics, laundry and linen services, and inventory management. Through collaboration and direct accountability with key customers, the Director will develop a hospital-wide approach for end-to-end supply chain integration that lowers the total cost of distribution and inventory management functions while improving customer service and support to the caregiver. The Director will also oversee the optimization and standardization of all supply chain automation tools and software within the hospital.
Duties and Responsibilities of this Level
Evaluate and document the flow of material through the hospital to include all hospital supply and inventory locations such as inpatient units, operating room, cath lab, and radiology. Identify variabilities/gaps in sourcing, logistics, distribution, and inventory management and recommend process redesign for service improvement and cost reduction.
Supervise, hire, and evaluate performance of all hospital Materials Management and Supply Chain employees.
Establish a set of performance metrics for entities and supply intensive departments which measure productivity and customer satisfaction. These metrics should show an increase in unit-based inventory turns, elimination of duplicative inventories, reduction in official inventories, minimization of inventory write-offs, and improved customer satisfaction.
Leverage materials management technology solutions currently in place at the hospital to create optimal efficiencies and ensure appropriate information linkages to other systems, i.e. electronic health records. These technologies include materials management information/inventory systems and point of use technology.
Quantify hospital's total cost for materials distribution functions and develop sustainable targets for cost reduction through efficiencies and elimination of redundant processes.
Develop training and mentoring program for staff who support materials functions and build core expertise onsite at the entity level.
Identify, develop and manage effective relationships with existing and potential suppliers for distribution and laundry services to ensure suppliers meet the established cost, quality and delivery targets. Implement, and manage system to evaluate, monitor and report supplier scorecards for distribution and laundry service providers. Review and approve all inventory write-offs/adjustments.
Required Qualifications at this Level
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Business, Healthcare, or a related field. Preferred degree in logistics.
Experience
Seven years of progressive experience in logistics, supply chain, or healthcare. 2 of the 7 years of experience must be in supply chain/logistics and 2 of the 7 years of experience must be in a management capacity.
