The Department of Otorhinolaryngology at Rush University Medical Center, a nationally recognized clinical and academic institution and the teaching hospital for Rush Medical and Nursing Colleges, located in downtown Chicago, invites applications for the position of Advanced Practice Provider. This role will support the outpatient management of ENT patients alongside a team of Otolaryngologists and Advanced Practice Providers on a Mon-Fri schedule.
*Applicants with previous experience in an outpatient or inpatient setting preferred.
The department has 20 faculty, 6 APPs, and 9 audiologists that provide a comprehensive array of otolaryngology services at the main campus and 6 regional sites in Illinois and Indiana. The program is currently ranked #28 on US News and World Report and has been ranked in top 50 last 5 years.
Rush has over 400 APPs across the enterprise that provide comprehensive patient care each day autonomously and in collaboration with other members of the health care team. With 2 Directors of Advanced Practice and 27 Lead APPs across the system, Rush’s vision is to have every APP practicing at full scope and top of license. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a licensed physician assistant (PA) or advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) who functions as a member of the health care team to provide high quality, comprehensive acute and/or routine medical/surgical care of Rush University Medical Center patients within the scope of practice granted in accordance with the RUMC medical staff bylaws. The APP will promote collaboration between multiple disciplines to ensure cost effective and quality patient care. The individual who holds this position will exemplify the Rush mission, vision and values and act in accordance with the policies, procedures, guidelines of Rush, including the Rush University Medical Group Customer Service standards. Successful candidates will also meet all other state and federal regulatory practice and accreditation standards.

Rush offers competitive total compensation that includes base pay, benefits, and other incentive programs for our employees. The total pay range shown reflects the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, specialty; relevant experience and training; and other business and organizational factors. This total pay range is for a full-time, 1.0 FTE employee, and includes any incentive payments that may be applicable to this role. Additional compensation may include premium pay rates, sign-on bonuses, and relocation allowances. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package.
Pay Range: $124,611 - $173,627

Other information: Required Job Qualifications: • Current State of Illinois Physician Assistant Licensure. • Current Certification from National Certification Commission for Physician Assistants (NCCPA). • Degree from an ARC-PA (or predecessor) accredited PA Program. • Current State of Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) and Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) Licensure. • Current Nurse Practitioner Certification from a national certifying organization Graduate from an accredited nurse practitioner educational program. • The APN's education and specialty board certification must correlate with the APP's job role, setting, responsibility and patient population. • Master's or Doctorate degree in nursing. • BLS certification. • Demonstrates competency in all areas of APP practice including: medical knowledge, interpersonal and communication skills, patient care, professionalism, practice based learning and improvement, and systems based practice. • Skill in preparing and maintaining electronic and paper medical records • Knowledge of current and emerging trends in technologies, techniques, issues, and approaches in area of expertise. • Strong work ethic, interpersonal and communication skills. • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively with collaborating physician, department, and other members of the healthcare team in an effective and comprehensive manner.
Preferred Job Qualifications: • Master's degree.
Responsibilities: Clinical •Completes and documents an accurate history and physical examination of patients. •Conducts comprehensive or episodic health assessments and develops patient care plans •Orders and interprets tests, treatments, and therapies within the scope of practice •Prescribes medications, including controlled substances to the extent delegated including non-pharmacologic treatment modalities •Orders, interprets, and performs laboratory and other diagnostic tests and procedures. •Provides clear, concise, and accurate information in the electronic medical record. •Initiate and perform consultations in accordance with Rush rules and regulations •Make appropriate referrals to other health care professionals and/or agencies •Provides direct patient care in assigned areas, which may be in a hospital or ambulatory setting.
Professional •Works collaboratively with his/her collaborating/supervising physician, department, and other members of the healthcare team in an effective and comprehensive manner. •Acts as an advocate for patients, families, coworkers, and the physician assistant profession •Participates in all required provider activities as outlined in the RUMC Medical Staff Bylaws. •Integrates evidence based knowledge and clinical expertise in decision making •Demonstrates competency in all medical and surgical procedures and skill considered essential in their area of practice •Maintains board certification, state licensure, and continuing medical education as outlined by hospital, state, and federal policy.
