Department Profile: The Children's Health Center at Duke University Hospital is comprised of pediatric outpatient clinics. Our team is active in delivering exemplary care for each patient to ensure an excellent patient experience, every time. The Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Department at the Duke Children's Health Center is active in delivering exemplary care for each patient to ensure excellent patient experience.
This position, of Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Nurse Navigator, will provide triage support and care coordination for this high acuity patient population in collaboration with dynamic multidisciplinary teams. We are looking for someone with the ability to establish a strong rapport with patients and families by phone, coordinate services, and provide education and nursing support to patients and families in and out of the clinic setting.
Work Hours & Shifts: Full Time: Hours may vary, but will typically fall within a standard Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm schedule. The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:
A solid background in Pediatric Nursing
Experience with telephone triage or managed care coordination
Flexible attitude with the ability to function both independently and as a team member, assisting patients/ families through home care coordination and in the clinic setting
This position requires indirect patient support tasks, as well as direct clinic time which may include the following:
Telephone triage
Patient/ family education
Coordinating clinic flow to ensure optimal utilization of time for patients and departmental staff
Completing clinical paperwork including lab forms, school forms, medical releases, emergency and travel letters, etc.
Prescription refills
Prior Authorizations
Order entry for future appointments

What you will need:
Graduation from an accredited Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (or higher) OR Associate's Degree in Nursing OR Nursing Diploma program.
Must have at least 1 full year of nursing experience.
***All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) will be required to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date and to complete the program within five years of their start date.
Licensure and Certification Required:
Current registration with North Carolina State Board of Nursing as a registered professional nurse OR current compact RN licensure to practice in the state of North Carolina required.
