JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a Patient Care Technician (Patient Service Technician) to provide assistance to Genetic Counselors (GC) in carrying out tasks related to clinical duties including processing of genetic testing and obtaining of relevant records and genetic histories.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Contact patients to identify main concerns and take information on previous genetic work up. Determine if other relatives of the patient were evaluated in the past by Genetics.
Take basic pedigree information from patient.
Confer with patients to obtain information for chart and laboratory records, explain procedures, allay fears and elicit cooperation; ensure completion of patients' laboratory tests prior to examination by physician.
Contact referring offices/specialties/clinics to obtain precise records needed.
Verify that specialty services notes and/or specific lab results were sent.
Prepare patients for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to include obtaining specimens.
Assist with coordination of collection of patient's samples, complete test requisition forms, and contact internal and external laboratories to determine status of genetic testing.
JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Work requires completion of a related 1 year technical school program.
Bachelor's degree with interest in Genetic Counseling preferred
Work generally requires two years of experience in health care specialties related to the specific position; two years additional years related experience may be substituted for the technical school.
