Reporting to the Department Chair and the Senior Associate Dean for Finance and Administration (or delegate), the
Finance and Administration Director functions as the senior administrative and financial officer for the Department of
Neurosurgery.
The Director provides leadership and direction for a wide range of operational functions for a remarkable academic
Department of Neurosurgery. You will focus on positioning the department and its faculty to achieve the missions of the
Medical School.
You are responsible for ensuring the success and efficient operation of the academic department and the strength of its
business functions. The department has an annual budget of over $45m, including $22m in revenue from clinical services
and $11m in revenue from sponsored projects. The department manages 58 faculty members, 133 staff members, and
residents and fellows engaged in clinical and research training.
This is an important Director role for a seasoned department administrator who is skilled in managing the operations and
finances of an academic department in a large, complex, academic health organization.
You are responsible for managing the operations and overall financial viability of the department. The Finance and Administration Director develops, implements, and maintains an administrative and financial infrastructure that effectively supports the department’s operations and
academic missions. You will expertly lead a team to achieve the strategic priorities and objectives of the DGSOM and by
extension the Department.
Specific areas of responsibility include implementing and operationalizing strategy and tactics as directed by leadership,
financial management and accounting, research administration, management of educational programs, academic affairs,
facilities, compliance and controls and health and safety. Responsibilities may vary depending upon department structure and operating
model.
Salary Range: $102500 - $227700/Annually
Qualifications
All Required:
Master’s degree
(BA, Health Care Administration, Public health or related field) or combination
of education and relevant experience.
Seven years of progressively responsible managerial
experience including financial and budget preparation.
Five years of
supervisory experience, with at least three or more years as a senior leader
over a large clinical department or service line.
Demonstrated strategic leadership, planning and change
management skills in a highly matrixed environment, preferably a
research-intensive medical school/health system.
Ability to demonstrate a high level of diplomacy in
persuading and influencing a wide variety of people at various levels to
achieve results.
Demonstrated ability to identify and analyze all pertinent
information/data to make and communicate executive level recommendations and
decisions.
Exceptional negotiation and effective interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to establish a culture of integrity and
accountability.
Advanced expertise in financial planning and analysis and
decision support as it pertains to academic health care, research and higher
education.
Demonstrate to others that you are direct, truthful and
