Summary:
Directory Collaboration Engineer I provides technical expertise in identity, messaging, and collaboration services. This role is responsible for the administration, support, and integration of Azure and on-prem Active Directory, Exchange Online, Microsoft Teams, mobile messaging, collaboration tools, access management (SSO/MFA), email encryption services, Microsoft Distributed File System (DFS-N, DFS-R), certificate management, and enterprise printing.
This position ensures the reliability, security, and efficiency of directory and collaboration technologies, supporting the organization?s business needs while maintaining compliance with healthcare IT standards.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning & System Engineering
Plan, design, and coordinate the future state of directory and collaboration technologies to align with business requirements and healthcare industry standards.
Evaluate and implement system changes and additions for proposed technology acquisitions, ensuring seamless integration, operational efficiency, and security compliance.
Assess and recommend hardware, software, and services while minimizing unplanned disruptions, especially for mission-critical systems.
System Administration & Integration
Administer and maintain Active Directory (on-premises & Azure), Exchange Online, Microsoft Teams, and other collaboration services.
Integrate and optimize identity and collaboration technologies for a fault-tolerant, modular, and scalable environment.
Ensure interoperability of directory services, authentication platforms, and security configurations across multiple systems.
Support identity lifecycle management, including user provisioning, deprovisioning, and access control.
Operational Support & Problem Management
Provide Tier 3 support for directory, authentication, and collaboration-related incidents, service requests, and change tasks.
Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues, collaborating with other teams to ensure timely resolution.
Develop knowledge base articles and contribute to problem management processes to prevent recurring incidents.
Security & Compliance
Manage authentication and authorization services, including SSO/MFA solutions through Microsoft Entra ID.
Monitor and maintain directory and collaboration security policies, ensuring compliance with IT security frameworks.
Oversee certificate lifecycle management, including SSL/TLS configurations, renewal processes, and troubleshooting.
Support email encryption and security protocols (Zix/Purview) to protect sensitive communications.
Performance Monitoring & Availability Management
Monitor system health, proactively addressing issues to ensure high availability and performance.
Implement performance tuning and optimization strategies for directory services and collaboration tools.
Participate in outage analysis to minimize downtime and enhance system reliability.
Collaboration & Documentation
Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical teams, translating complex IT concepts into actionable recommendations.
Develop and maintain documentation for directory structures, policies, procedures, and configurations.
Provide technical training and mentorship to IT associates as needed.
Requirements:
Education/Skills
Bachelor?s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experienceof 2+ years).
Strong expertisein Azure Active Directory, on-premises Active Directory, Exchange Online, and Microsoft stack administration.
In-depth knowledge of identity and access management (SSO/MFA) technologies, such as Okta, Entra ID, SAML, LDAP, and Kerberos.
Experience with Microsoft Distributed File System (DFS-N, DFS-R) for file system management and replication.
Understanding of security protocols (SSL, TLS, WS-Fed, SWA) and their role in enterprise environments.
Expertise in certificate management, including Certificate Authorities (CAs) and lifecycle management. Utilizing a Certificate Management Solution like Venafi.
Proficiency in PowerShell scripting for automation and system administration.
Familiarity with enterprise printing solutions like LRS, and related troubleshooting.
Experience with Certificate Management. This includes managing Certificate Authorities (CAs), understanding certificate lifecycle management, ensuring SSL/TLS certificate security, monitoring certificate expirations, and troubleshooting certificate-related issues.
Experience
2+ years of experience in an enterprise IT environment with a focus on directory services, identity management, and collaboration platforms.
2+ years of hands-on experience managing Active Directory, Exchange/Exchange Online, and Microsoft 365 services.
Experience in automation and scripting using PowerShell.
Healthcare IT experience is a plus.
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:
One or more of the following certifications preferred:
Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert
Microsoft Certified Associate or equivalent
Microsoft Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert
