In this role, you will perform and assist with surgical procedures for animal studies across various departments, including Safety Assessment and Metabolism, on a global scale.
You will ensure compliance with SOPs, GLPs, and regulatory guidelines while maintaining an in-depth understanding of anatomy, physiology, and tissue handling related to surgical models. Your responsibilities will include monitoring animal health and welfare in accordance with the Animal Welfare Act and upholding our Culture of Care values, ensuring the well-being of animals is always a top priority.

Work Hours: 1st shift - M-F 6:30am-3:15pm for the first three months (After 3 months, shifts are flexible, including options for a 4 day a week/ 10 hour per day schedule).

What you will be doing:
Ensure animal care aligns with regulatory guidelines and ethical principles.
Perform animal husbandry duties and address care concerns.
Interpret protocols, identify problems, and coordinate resources.
Apply good research practices (GXP) and assist in equipment validations.
Maintain client confidentiality and incorporate new technology.
Ensure studies follow protocols, SOPs, and regulations.
Lead study types, manage client relations, and mentor staff.
Serve as an SME for techniques or study designs.
Perform medicant administration, physical exams, dosing, and sample collection.
Conduct euthanasia and surgical procedures on multiple species.
Manage workload, adapt to changes, and support other departments.
Review ACUA and IACUC activities before procedures.
Collaborate with veterinary staff and engage in administrative tasks.
Train and mentor newer staff, set up for surgeries, and perform minor procedures.
Conduct complex anesthesia and veterinary directives.
Assist in major surgeries and perform model development projects.
Be knowledgeable in anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology.
Contribute to process improvements and adapt techniques.
Review and author Controlled Documents and training materials.
Identify process gaps and lead corrective actions.
Ensure supply availability and prepare procedure costs.
Perform literature searches and research as needed.

Minimum Education and Experience Required
Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Associate degree in Laboratory Animal Technology or Associate degree in Veterinary Technology.??
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education.??
Preferred Qualifications
1 to 2 years of performing veterinary surgical procedures.
ASR Certifications is encouraged but not required.
AALAS certification at the Laboratory Animal Technologist level is encouraged but not required.
