Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.

The Kugel Laboratory is accepting applications for a Lab Technician position. The laboratory uses basic and translational research approaches to explore pathogenic mechanisms and novel targeted therapies in pancreas and biliary cancer. Successful candidates will learn to generate and exploit a series of fundamental cancer model systems including genetically engineered murine models (GEMMs), patient-derived xenografts and novel human cancer cell lines.

Responsibilities

The incumbent will have the opportunity to become involved with all the steps of research being completed by the group and contribute to publications, with the ultimate goal of translating their findings into novel clinical trials for pancreas and biliary cancer patients. Scientific methodologies and areas of focus include animal models and murine genetics, molecular biology, cell biology and metabolism, proteomics, biochemistry, pharmacology, and genomics. The experience gained in the lab will be useful for pursuing a career as a researcher or physician.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• One (1) year of college coursework emphasizing laboratory science or equivalent, or one year experience as a Laboratory Tech I or equivalent.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelors's degree in biochemistry, molecular biology or related field.
• Experience with mammalian cell culture and murine models.
• Must be comfortable handling mice.
• Priority will be given to candidates who can make a 2-year commitment to the role.
• Detail-oriented, organized, and able to work independently as well as part of a team in a challenging environment.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $22.87 to $32.56 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
