Tacoma Community College seeks an innovative, student-centered tenure-track OR full-time temporary professor to join our Healthcare Pathway. 

The Community Health Professional Professor is responsible for developing, preparing and teaching fully online community health coursework in a baccalaureate degree program. Our thriving Community Health Professional, BAS program is celebrating its 6th year as an integral part of the Healthcare Pathway at TCC's main campus. Although the courses in this program are 100% online, this position will require regular on-campus activities for college and program work, student meetings, industry partner meetings, and other related functions.

 

Essential Functions

Full-Time Faculty – The primary responsibility of teaching faculty is student teaching and learning. To fulfill this responsibility, teaching faculty will:

• Prepare and teach fully online baccalaureate-level courses in the field of Community Health 
• Collaborate with program faculty and staff on curriculum and program development incorporating current educational theories and research and integrating new and innovative approaches to instruction. 
• Develop and utilize a variety of instructional strategies appropriate to the needs of learners in an online environment. 
• Employ innovative and inclusive teaching methods to engage a diverse student population.
• Foster a positive and supportive learning environment that encourages student success.
• Collaborate with an advisory committee of community partners to keep curriculum relevant to local industry. 
• Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback using program criteria and expectations. 
• Maintain regular office hours according to the current CBA to support and improve student retention and success. 
• Utilize online learning management systems (Blackboard, Canvas, etc.) and other innovative teach and learning technology.
• Develop and foster community partnerships.
• Work with local employers and students to facilitate internships. 
• Support division/department goals. 
• Actively participate in departmental responsibilities to include curriculum review, program development, and faculty meetings.
• Develop curriculum at a baccalaureate level. 
• Serve on college committees and participate in college governance. 
• Participate in the college’s professional development and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion events and training. 
• Participate in department, division and college outreach activities. Participate in the holistic recruitment and retention of community health students, particularly in historically under-represented or marginalized groups.
• Meet accreditation standards for areas of instructional responsibility and participate in and support overall college accreditation processes.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience: 

• Master’s degree in Public Health, Community Health, Social Work, Nursing, Health Administration, Human Services, Education or related field OR equivalent work experience
• 3 years relevant work experience and/or relevant current teaching experience that particularly qualify the candidate to provide instruction in community health.
• Current BLS or Healthcare CPR certification, CPR/AED certification.  (may obtain upon hire)

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Doctoral degree in Public Health, Community Health, Social Work, Nursing, Human Services, or related field
• Current in appropriate certifications CHES, CPH, and/or equivalent in field of instruction. 
• Experience teaching at a secondary or post-secondary level. 
• Experience teaching or doing research in Native/Indigenous communities.

• Experience with dynamic, interactive delivery methods of teaching students with widely varying levels of proficiency and with diverse backgrounds, abilities, and learning styles. Willingness to use contemporary teaching techniques such as collaborative, inquiry-based, active, and experiential learning, integrative learning communities, and individual and group student projects.
• Ethical decision-making ability and sound professional judgment. 
• Dedication to group problem solving and collaboration.
