Summary

The Supervisory Social Worker will be assigned to the outpatient general Mental Health Clinic (MHC) Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program Collaborative Care Management (BHIP-CCM) program serving as the assigned supervisor for BHIP Care Coordinators. The Supervisor provides clinical - consultative - and supervisory services for providers assigned to BHIP across Central Texas Mental Health & Behavioral Medicine (MHBM).

Basic Requirements:

• Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)
• Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited
• A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work
• Verification of the degree can be made by going to http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a Master of Social Work
• Licensure/Certification
• Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level

• Once licensed or certified - social workers must maintain a full - valid - and unrestricted independent license or certification to remain qualified for employment
• Loss of licensure or certification will result in removal from the GS-0185 social worker series and may result in termination of employment
• English Language Proficiency: Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f)

• One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level
• Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competence and judgment
• Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship - or equivalent supervised professional experience
• Licensure/Certification: Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level - and must be able to provide supervision for licensure
• Demonstrated Knowledge - Skills - and Abilities: In addition to the experience above - the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: (a) Ability to independently organize work - set priorities - and meet multiple deadlines
• (b) Knowledge of supervisory duties which includes clinical supervision - consultation - negotiation with other departments and quality improvement
• (c) Ability to ensure provision of clinical social work services
• (d) Ability to provide staff training and development
• (e) Skill in interpersonal relationships in dealing with employees - team leaders - and managers
• Assignment: For all assignments above the full performance level - the higher-level duties must consist of significant scope - complexity (difficulty) - and variety and be performed by the incumbent at least 25% of the time
• At the GS-12 grade level - supervisory social workers typically have significant personnel management responsibilities for a small to moderate sized professional and non-professional staff - including support staff and professional staff at the GS-12 grade level and below
• The supervisory social worker is responsible for the professional and administrative management of an area in a social work service - in a care/product line - or multiple facilities
• They provide direct clinical services with or without program coordination responsibilities
• Preferred Experience: At least 1 year experience working in BHIP Care Coordination role
• At least 1 year experience working in mental health leadership/management
• Experience working within interdisciplinary teams
• Experience working with Veteran/Military populations

• - Establishing and maintaining records concerning clinical competencies - supervising the day-to-day activities of staff - and providing clinical consultation to staff concerning particularly difficult cases or ethical dilemmas - Ensuring that the clinical operations are in conformance with all applicable regulatory bodies and collaborates with relevant parties on annual Performance Appraisals specific to staff
• - Developing - organizing - directing and managing all aspects of the LPMHC professional activities including comprehensive development - planning and implementation of relevant policies and procedures - overseeing and directing the quality and quantity of the services provided - monitoring data-driven outcomes - and establishing program initiatives and direction within limitations of available staff and budget
• - Collaborating with relevant Training Program Coordinator for oversight and implementation of training programs for all master's level mental health counseling students in training
• - Working closely with the assigned Program Manager and Deputy Chief of Psychology for ongoing management of program and clinic operations
• Direct Patient Care Functions (50%): - Contributing to the gathering of biopsychosocial assessment information
• - Using shared decision making with Veterans to develop a detailed treatment plan for Veterans serviced by BHIP.- Providing recovery planning and psychological treatment to Veterans with a wide range of co- occurring disorders - including but not limited to anxiety - PTSD - depression - substance use - and personality disorders
• - Providing evidence-based individual and group psychotherapy to Veterans with complex mental health problems - especially as regards to adaptation and rehabilitation
• Treatment approaches utilized should be supported by psychological research regarding effectiveness for the conditions being treated
• Treatment approaches may include but are not limited to: acceptance and commitment therapy - cognitive behavioral therapy - prolonged exposure - cognitive processing therapy - and/or dialectical behavioral therapy
• - Administering - scoring - documenting - and discussing psychological screening instruments to monitor treatment outcomes
• - Complying with national and local performance measures - including timely health care screening and completion of clinical reminders for all patients.- Completing other clinical duties as assigned
