The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC), in partnership with Korn Ferry, invites nominations and expressions of interest for the position of Section Chief, Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.

As a premier academic medical center, OUHSC has a rich legacy of excellence in patient care, research, and medical education. The Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Section, housed within the OU College of Medicine’s Department of Pediatrics, is a leader in advancing treatment for children and adolescents with cancer and blood disorders. With a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach, the section has remained at the forefront of pediatric oncology and hematology, offering innovative therapies and cutting-edge clinical research. The Jimmy Everest Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders serves as a major referral center for Oklahoma and the surrounding region, offering leading-edge treatments in areas such as bone marrow transplantation, hemophilia, sickle cell disease, brain tumors, and cancer survivorship. The section is a member of the Children’s Oncology Group (COG) and actively participates in numerous national and international clinical trials, ensuring access to groundbreaking therapies for its patients.

After years of growth and impact, OUHSC is seeking an exceptional leader to guide the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Section into its next chapter. Reporting to Dr. Robert Katz, Chair of the Department of Pediatrics, the Section Chief will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Section’s clinical, research, and educational missions. The Section Chief will set strategic priorities, foster a culture of collaboration and innovation, and drive continued excellence in patient care. They will be responsible for faculty development, research expansion, programmatic growth, and enhancing the national and international recognition of the program. The Section Chief will work closely with leadership at OU Health, the Oklahoma Children’s Hospital, and the Stephenson Cancer Center to advance interdisciplinary initiatives, expand clinical trials, and strengthen external partnerships.

As a key institutional leader, the Section Chief will lead a team of highly skilled faculty, fellows, and advanced practice providers dedicated to delivering compassionate, state-of-the-art care. They will oversee clinical services, including the region’s only FACT-accredited Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Program, which has seen a steady increase in survival rates and research advancements. They will also support the section’s robust research enterprise, which includes 128 active IRB studies, spanning oncology, bone marrow transplantation, sickle cell disease, and bleeding disorders. The Chief will collaborate with faculty across multiple disciplines to integrate research findings into clinical care and mentor trainees in groundbreaking discoveries that will shape the future of pediatric hematology/oncology.

The ideal candidate will be a board-certified MD or MD/PhD in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology with demonstrated leadership experience within an academic medical center. They will have a proven track record of clinical excellence, research innovation, and faculty development, as well as experience leading multidisciplinary teams in a complex healthcare environment. The successful candidate will bring a visionary approach to program growth, with the ability to expand research initiatives, enhance faculty mentorship, and elevate the national profile of the program.
