DEPARTMENTAL SUMMARY: St. Charles Cancer Institute brings together leading research, technology and personalized guidance to deliver the highest quality patient care. Our hospital-based, comprehensive Cancer Centers, located in Bend and Redmond (spring 2026) are accredited by the Commission on Cancer and the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Breast Surgeon is responsible for providing medical, surgical, and postoperative management of patients experiencing diseases and disorders of the breast. The Breast Surgeon will work in collaboration with other medical specialties to assess and manage patients following established standards and practices.

• Work schedule: Physician will work 40 hours per week; this will be a blend of hospital rounding, procedure block time, scheduled clinic visits and Interdisciplinary clinic including charting of patient care, attending multidisciplinary Breast Conference, recognizing that the minimum requirement may fluctuate up and down based on direct patient care.
• Call expectation: Physician will participate in after-hours practice call for their patients.
• Work location: Physician will work out of the Bend and Redmond hospitals and clinics

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES: (May perform additional duties of similar complexity within SCHS as required or assigned)

Clinical Expectations:

• Examines, diagnoses, and provides surgical care of patients with breast diseases and disorders.
• Performs patient examinations, obtains and records pertinent medical history, subjective, and objective findings.
• Orders and interprets appropriate laboratory, imaging, and other diagnostic procedures.
• Interprets and integrates data to determine diagnosis, and therapeutic plan.
• Administers and prescribes medications in compliance with state law and practice guidelines.
• Orders and performs appropriate medical and surgical procedures in accordance with State law and practice guidelines.
• Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatments.
• Educates patients regarding health, illness prevention, and healing. Recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs.
• Maintains and reviews patient records, charts, and other pertinent information, documenting clearly and concisely.
• Triages patient telephone calls, providing consultation as needed.
• Communicates effectively with colleagues, patients, physicians, and administration.
• Maintains quality of clinical practice by selecting appropriate avenues for professional growth.
• Direct Supervisor: Breast Program Director

Administrative Expectations:

• Document all patient care within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and complete all necessary tasks in compliance with health system policies and regulatory agencies to ensure timely and accurate billing.
• Be familiar with the SCHS organization structure.
• Participate in SCHS physicians meetings and assist in policy formation for SCHS and Physicians practice.
• Keep medical knowledge and skills current through regular CME activity. Must attest to having adequate (CME) to meet maintenance of board certification and compliance with MSO rules and continuing privileges without restriction.
• Keep all licenses and appropriate certifications current and unrestricted.
• Maintain active privileges at St. Charles Health System hospitals sufficient to permit performance of job duties.

• Complies with all applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures, supporting the health systems corporate integrity efforts by acting in an ethical and appropriate manner, reporting known or suspected violations of applicable rules, and cooperating fully with all health systems investigations and proceedings.

EDUCATION

Required:

• Graduation from an accredited medical school.
• Successful completion of an accredited residency program in General Surgery.
• Successful completion of a Fellowship Program in Breast Surgery.
• Successful completion of additional educational programs necessary to enable Physician to acquire and maintain privileges to perform the range of services contemplated. This includes board eligibility/certification in the specialty being practiced.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION

Required:

• Oregon license as MD/DO
• Fellowship-trained in Breast Surgery
• Board certified in General Surgery with added certification in Breast Surgery.
• Valid drivers license and the ability to meet SCHS driving requirements.
• Maintain unrestricted DEA number.
• Maintain unrestricted ability to participate in Medicare / Medicaid, or other federal or state governmental health care programs.

EXPERIENCE

Preferred:

• Completion of Fellowship in Breast Surgery

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

• Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.

GENERAL

• Must have excellent communication skills and ability to interact with a diverse population and professionally represent SCHS.
• Strong team working and collaborative skills.
• Ability to multi-task and work independently.
• Attention to detail.
• Excellent organizational skills, written and oral communication and customer service skills, particularly in dealing with stressful personal interactions.
• Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Electronic Medical Record systems.
• Intermediate in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel).
