The medical technician will provide generalist laboratory services to the hospital, clinic, and outpatient services within the facility. The individual will perform a variety of laboratory procedures of a technical nature to provide accurate and timely testing for patients. The individual will be handling sensitive equipment to analyze samples or substances and conduct tests to report findings to appropriate personnel.
Responsible for obtaining capillary and venous blood collection from patient of all ages following CLSI guidelines as appropriate for testing.
Collect Urine samples for laboratory testing and screening for drugs of abuse.
Collect throat and nasal swabs for analysis.
Perform arterial draws for blood gas analysis
Perform appropriate test using micro equipment, chemical equipment and/or gas analysis.
Prepare and process samples for testing in-house or for reference laboratory and selecting the appropriate test within the E.H.R., LIS and/or EMM systems to maintaining accurate documentation and billing.
Research and select appropriate sample requirements for test processing within the reference laboratory system.
Organize and store all chemical(s) substances, fluids, and compressed gases according to safety instructions and laboratory procedures.
Collect the appropriate patient specimen to accurately perform the corresponding order.
Follow medical laboratory operation procedures, policies, and Federal and State regulatory guidelines.
Perform, analyze, interpret, and monitor quality control and quality assurance measures and protocols as required by manufacturer and CLIA.
Give accurate and timely results to appropriate personnel.
Maintains patient confidentiality by following HIPAA rules and guidelines and facility policies.
Accurately perform procedures as outlined in the procedure manuals and prepare reagents as needed.
Perform routine preventive maintenance as required by instrument manufacturers and apply advanced trouble shooting skills.
Calibrate equipment utilizing approved testing procedures, as required.
Inventory laboratory supplies and provide order request(s) to laboratory manager.
Attend schedule in-service training and periodic continuing education.
Education: Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences required; Bachelor degree preferred; from an accredited institution.
Licensure: ASCP Registered or equivalent
Work Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience in the medical laboratory setting preferred
