General Summary

Under general supervision, coordinates all administrative activities relative to the Adult Stem Cell Transplant Program within the Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center, including validating and appealing reimbursement coverage, coordinating pre-hospitalization testing and assuring thorough patient follow-up. Represents the Stem Cell Transplant Program to patients, families, referring physicians, hospital staff, and local, state and federal agencies and organizations.

Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

• Facilitates the Stem Cell Transplant Program, acting as a resource to all members of the health care team.
• Develops, maintains currency of and monitors variances of Stem Cell Transplant related standard operating procedures.
• Manages a group of patients in the process of being evaluated for stem cell transplant or cellular therapy facilitating patient referral, patient eduction, Patient evaluations, and other management within the Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program.
• Establishes and maintains frequent contact with referring physicians and institutions to ensure the timely transmission of pertinent medical records, pathology slides, and diagnostic test results. Communicates same to medical staff.
• Maintains procedures to ensure the appropriate and acceptable financial coverage for Stem Cell Transplant patients in conjunction with the BMT Financial Coordinator and the Managed Care Department.
• Maintains relationships with external donor registrars and facilitates unrelated donor stem cell collection to ensure appropriate billing for all hospital and physician services
• Responds to requests for data and information from the Managed Care Division related to the stem cell transplant program.
