The role you’ll contribute: Processes specimens for pathologic diagnosis, tissue fixation, processing, preparing and staining slides for microscopic examination by the pathologist.
The value you’ll bring to the team:
·Assists in training new employees and histology students/interns while providing leadership and mentoring to histotechnicians, fellow histotechnologists, and laboratory support staff to maintain optimal operations and outstanding customer service.
·May perform quality control testing, equipment maintenance, identification of problems that may affect test performance or reporting of test results and troubleshooting practices.
·Ensures the analytic accuracy, precision, and sensitivity in test methods.
·Maintains established facility and department policies and procedures.
·Performs analytical activities related to specimen processing, embedding, microtomy, routine and special histologic staining, frozen sectioning, cover slipping and handling of irreplaceable tissue, surgical and body fluid specimens.
·Participates in proficiency testing program as assigned. Ensures that proficiency testing deadlines are met and samples are analyzed in the same manner as patient samples.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
REQUIRED: •Associate's degree in a related field
PREFERRED: •Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent
•One year of experience as a Histology technician/technologist in a Histology laboratory setting
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
•In licensure states, must hold licensure as a Histotechnologist for the department or location assignment as applicable to the state -OR –
•In non-licensure states, must hold a national certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent as a Histotechnologist unless grandfathered per state requirement
