The Team Leader, Pathology is responsible for the processing and allocation of laboratory specimens and orders from all sources and/or collects specimens on all age populations as assigned with minimal patient impact. Responsible for verification of patient/specimen identification, appropriateness of specimen and accompanying orders. Responsible for the daily organization of the Phlebotomy and/or Specimen Processing sections of the Clinical laboratory. Organizes daily workflow within the section, schedules staff for daily assignments and monitors specimen collection. Provides staff training and education, maintaining training records in compliance with laboratory standards and accrediting agencies and representation of the laboratory to the customers in the hospital. Assists with the annual and introductory performance appraisals on assigned staff. Assists the supervisor with Quality Assurance and Continuous Quality Improvement activities. Assists with writing of new procedures and the updating of current procedures. Works as an individual and as part of a team with minimal supervision/periodic review by supervisory staff.
