The Senior Philanthropy Program Manager will oversee the administrative functions for the Transformational Giving Program, which includes priorities for UNC Hospitals and Faculty Physicians as well as the Clinical Departments, Centers and Institutes of the School of Medicine. The position will work report to, and work closely with, the Vice President of Transformational Philanthropy to evaluate, develop, and implement program vision, goals, and strategy to expand the operational capacity to support the growth of fundraising activities.
This position requires a strong skill set dedicated to the identification of donors capable of transformational philanthropic commitments of $10M or more, and collaboration on developing strategies for their engagement with the UNC Health Foundation and the leadership of UNC Health and the UNC School of Medicine. The role will identify and analyze the often complex and opaque wealth held by these prospects and identify relationship networks to prepare the UNC Health Foundation?s Vice President of Transformational Philanthropy for strategizing a path for their engagement and ultimate solicitation for transformational level gifts. The Transformational Philanthropy Strategist will serve as a key partner in the development of these long-term engagement strategies.
Responsibilities:
1. Identify, research and qualify high-level individuals, corporations and foundations with capacity to make philanthropic commitments of $10M or more. 2. Working with the Assistant VP for Prospect Development and Manager of Prospect Research, prepare detailed research briefings, analyzing net worth, estimating gift capacity, and suggesting prospect strategy. 3. Develop and maintain UNCHF?s Transformational Philanthropy portfolio of donors and prospects. 4. Contribute information and written sections to prospect strategy briefings; participate in prospect strategy meetings and Transformational Philanthropy portfolio reviews. Review prospect management reports and ensure activities align with UNCHF Key Performance Indicators. 5. Monitor news and events of transformational prospects and provide relevant notifications to the VP for Transformational Philanthropy and relevant fundraising teammates. 6. Uphold Prospect Development database entry and enrichment practices and related recordkeeping for transformational prospects to ensure accuracy and functionality of reporting tools. 7. Partner with the VP of Transformational Philanthropy, UNC Health and School of Medicine leadership and faculty, relevant fundraising teammates and the UNCHF communications team to develop clear and compelling cases for support for UNC Health and UNC School of Medicine?s strategic initiatives, and targeted proposals for support. 8. Manage standard operating procedures (SOPs), ensuring annual review and updates. Oversee the collection and distribution of SOPs. 9. Understand and adhere to the highest standards of research ethics and confidentiality, including HIPAA regulations.

Requires five (5) years of development or development related experience. Experience in an academic medical center, university or large college setting is preferred. Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements: ? Excellent interpersonal, organizational and presentational skills required. Superior written and verbal communication skills required. Working knowledge of computer-related office tools and database management. ? Must demonstrate ability to communicate clearly and effectively with diverse constituencies, meet deadlines, be self-motivated, work independently, demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to shifting priorities. ? Must have a customer service-oriented attitude, and the ability to be a team player with proven relationship and influencing skills and ability to collaborate with colleagues from a variety of internal and external functional areas. ? Mastery of the technical aspects of search, including biographical and financial/business reference resources, informational databases, web-based research services and research internet sites. ? Familiarity with the billionaire and ultra-high net worth philanthropy communities. ? Knowledge and experience with advanced prospect research tools and skills. ? Ability to organize and analyze complex material and work with sensitive and confidential information. ? Ability to produce concise, clearly written and well-synthesized research derived from factual information from reliable, vetted primary and secondary sources. ? Must be able to understand financial information and employ industry methodologies and "rules of thumb" to support estimates of wealth and philanthropic capacity of research subjects. ? Exposure to philanthropy for medical research, children?s health or hospitals. ? Understanding of reputational risk and due diligence research methodologies and practice. ? Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines for research requests. ? Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access) for creating profiles and spreadsheets.
