We are seeking a Clinical Dietitian in our Duke Perinatal of Durham located in Durham, NC.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Meets with patients individually or in a group setting and collects patient assessment data, using the American Education of Diabetic Educators (AADE) framework in a collaborative and ongoing manner.
Develops educational goals, learning objectives, and a plan for educational content and teaching methods with the patients in collaboration with the physician.
Effectively provides educational interventions utilizing appropriate methods such as interactive, collaborative, and skill-based training methods.
Collaboratively develops an individualized follow-up plan with each patient.
Provides wellness education and encourages patients be proactive about their health
Instructs patients about diet as well as the role of diet and exercise in the management of the diabetes.
Teaches patients correct portion sizes, healthy food choices, and which exercises are appropriate.
Teaches patients proper method of calculating insulin doses, giving insulin injections, and storing insulin
Teaches patients the proper use of the glucometer to check blood glucose levels.
JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
Baccalaureate degree in Food and Nutrition, Dietetics, Nutritional Sciences, Human Nutrition, or comparable major.
Successful completion of coordinated program or dietetic internship of not less than 900 hours under the supervision of a Registered Dietitian.
One year in an acute care environment preferred; experience may be waived for specific positions.
Registered dietitian (RD) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration; candidates eligible for registration may be hired with the expectation that registration will be achieved within 90 days of hire.
Licensed dietitian/nutritionist (LDN) by the North Carolina Board of Dietetics and Nutrition; provision for license-eligible dietitians as above.
JOB HOURS:
The schedule for this position is day shifts, Monday-Friday, with no weekends or holidays.
