The Department of Orthopedics at Nationwide Children’s Hospital has engaged Furst Group, a nationally recognized healthcare executive search firm, to conduct a national recruitment for the Allan C. Beebe Director, Center for Comprehensive Spine Center. Nationwide Children’s Hospital is an international leader in pediatric healthcare with more than 65 sites and over 1.8 million patient visits per year – from Columbus, Ohio, to 45 countries across the globe. Nationwide Children’s Hospital has the largest Neonatal network in the country with 275 on-and off-campus licensed beds, the third-largest children’s hospital in the United States, and is nationally ranked by U.S. News & World Report.
The Director will lead the clinical, academic, and research strategies for an established and successful spine program, promoting an aggressive plan for clinical and academic growth. Candidates must demonstrate an extensive background in the management of pediatric, adolescent, and young adult spinal deformity and spine-related conditions, superb clinical outcomes, leadership experience, and previous academic productivity. Participation and involvement in national and international organizations is expected. This role requires active participation in the supervision and education of fellows, residents and medical students, as well as other allied health professionals, and a commitment to develop a dedicated spine fellowship.
The Director will also be asked to promote and develop both non-surgical and surgical innovation within the field of pediatric/adolescent spine care, spine motion analysis, and quality improvement initiatives. Pre-existing resources include a spine motion lab, a dedicated research team including IS support, IRB support, and manuscript editing. In addition, a team of advanced practice providers (APNs/PAs), and nursing and administrative support within the inpatient and outpatient setting is provided. An immediate and established clinical practice dedicated to pediatric/adolescent spine surgery will be fully accessible from the inception of the position.
The Department of Orthopedics currently includes nine full-time faculty members and is affiliated with the Ohio State University Wexner College of Medicine. In 2023, its surgeons were responsible for over 1,000 discharges, 42,000 outpatient visits, and nearly 3,000 operations, including over 150 spinal deformity cases. Faculty participates in the training of approximately 50 rotating residents and three fellows per academic year in its ACGME-accredited programs.
In addition, Nationwide Children’s Hospital recently opened the Livingston Orthopedics and Surgery Center in July 2024. This location provides nearly 40,000 square feet of clinical space to the Department of Orthopedics, including a dedicated area for the Center for Comprehensive Spine Care. Dedicated EOS imaging, onsite MRI services, in-clinic behavioral health support, and onsite orthotics and prosthetics all help to centralize care. Also onsite is the Honda Center for Gait Analysis and Mobility Enhancement. This newly built state-of-the-art motion analysis center provides a unique and dedicated spine motion analysis lab in addition to the traditional gait lab and an additional upper extremity motion lab. An outpatient surgical center and extraordinary rehabilitation space complete the clinical possibilities.
The Research Institute at NCH is one of the fastest growing pediatric research centers in the United States and is ranked in the top 10 for National Institutes of Health funding among free-standing children’s hospitals.
This is an excellent opportunity to lead a world-class pediatric spine program with institutional support to foster continued innovations in pediatric healthcare.
