The Zilber College of Public Health is a multidisciplinary, research-based school of innovation that spans cells to society and translates discovery into practice. The college has been a significant contributor to research activity at UWM. Over the past decade, Zilber College has been the second most highly NIH-funded unit on campus, despite its relatively small size and recent founding. Zilber College faculty have received federal funding from the NIH in the form of R01, R03, R21, and K99/R00 awards, as well as funding from HRSA, DHHS, NOAA, NSF, CDC, PCORI, USDA, and several national and state foundations and philanthropies. Additionally, in July 2023, the Zilber Family Foundation presented the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee with the largest single gift in the history of the University, a $20 million gift to support faculty excellence and student achievement in the Zilber College.
Job Summary
The Kinesiology programs in the Zilber College of Public Health at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee include BS, MS and PhD degrees in Kinesiology. Our BS Kinesiology program prepares students for a fulfilling career in the health, fitness, or wellness industry as well as for graduate study in a professional or research-focused program. Our MS Kinesiology program offers study in Strength and Conditioning, Clinical Exercise Physiology, and research to prepare students to engage in rigorous, theory-driven, evidence-based, Kinesiology practice and research. Our Ph.D. curricula prepare students for research careers in academia or industry where they will conduct original research with a goal of adding to existing knowledge, testing theories, and making discoveries.
Responsibilities will include teaching, generation and dissemination of research, applying for funding to support research, advising students, and participating in program, college and university business. This position is a tenure-track, 9-month academic year appointment with competitive salary, attractive benefits, research incentives and start-up package, a reduced teaching load for the first two years of appointment, and the ability to generate summer salary.
Minimum Qualifications
• Doctoral degree in Kinesiology or related field by the appointment start date. • At least one academic term of experience teaching exercise physiology courses as a primary instructor or teaching assistant at the post-secondary level. • Research experience in human-based exercise physiology, evidenced by presentations or publications.
Preferred Qualifications
• Post-doctoral training. • Proven ability/strong potential to secure external research funding. • Current, or the potential to apply for American College of Sports Medicine Clinical Exercise Physiology (ACSM-CEP) Certification. • Experience teaching diverse learners using high impact practices.
