Job Description
Exciting Opportunity at MSK: Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Lab Manager. In this role, you will oversee the technical and administrative operations of a discovery research laboratory newly arrived at MSK, ensuring smooth operations, compliance with regulations, and supporting the research projects that drive cutting-edge scientific advances.
Role Overview:
- Manage day-to-day activities in the research laboratory, including ensuring essential equipment is operational and supplies are available for routine experiments.
- Serve as the liaison between the lab and safety/regulatory offices to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.
- Develop and maintain laboratory guidelines and procedure manuals; evaluate new materials and equipment for lab use.
- Carry out research projects and assist in the writing and editing of manuscripts for publication.
- Supervise and train lab personnel, ensuring proper lab conduct and instructing on experimental protocols.
- Oversee lab safety programs, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
- Assist with the planning and management of laboratory space and facilities, recommending changes and maintaining inventory of equipment, supplies, and furniture.
- Enforce exit policy procedures by collecting/archiving materials from departing lab members.
- Assist in the writing and preparation of reports, charts, and graphs to communicate results at scientific meetings or for publication.
Key Qualifications:
- Master's Degree or higher in health or physical sciences, or equivalent education and experience.
- Five or more years of lab experience, including at least three years in a supervisory role.
- Proven ability to perform complex experiments with high levels of accuracy and reliability.
- Strong supervisory and leadership abilities.
- In-depth knowledge in a specific research area and a broad understanding of various laboratory functions.
- Proven ability to write and edit scientific manuscripts.
- Ability to train and mentor staff in experimental protocols.
- Experience in managing budgets and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
- Experience in immunology, immunofluorescence imaging and mouse experimentation would be a plus.

- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- In-depth understanding of laboratory procedures, equipment, and safety protocols.
- Ability to analyze research goals and develop systems and processes to achieve them effectively.
- Proficient in data analysis and reporting, including preparing scientific documents for publication.
