Education - Bachelors Experience - 3 Years of Perfusionist Experience. Supervisory/Management experience required. Certification/License/Registration - Cert Clinical Perfusionist (CCP), Licensed Perfusionist (PERFUSIO) - Must acquire Texas License if they are out of state.
JOB SUMMARY
The Supervisor, Perfusion is accountable for supervising, planning, organizing and improving Perfusion Servcies provided by perfusionists and autotransfusion technicians. This position performs orientation, teaches, coaches, supervises staff and performs Perfusion procedures as required. The Supervisor acts as a department liaison in the absence of a manager.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Oversees the delivery and quality of Perfusion services, including the operation of the extracorporeal circulation equipment and the selection of the appropriate equipment and techniques in a timely, accurate, and cost-efficient way in compliance with established System and regulatory standards, policies and procedures.
Ensures adequate staffing levels, supplies and resources are available to perform Perfusion services to meet clinical demands. Schedules, monitors, evaluates and modifies staffing patterns to properly give services.
Interviews, counsels, and completes performance evaluations and merit reviews. Trains new staff and assures all registrations and certifications are current, on file and up to date.
Partners with the management team and staff to conduct multidisciplinary staff meetings to ensure consistent and timely communication throughout the department.
Facilitates goal setting for staff. Monitors goals, achievements and assures the outcome of the goals is reflected in the annual performance evaluations. Encourages employees to take part in Employee Satisfaction Surveys, Patient Safety surveys and other activities providing service feedback results to staff. Initiates a plan of action related to areas of improvement.
Ensures that all perfusion equipment is in proper working order and preventive maintenance is current, and that all perfusion supplies are maintained at par levels.
Collaberates with management to promote a culture of service excellence and patient centeredness, as reflected in customer satisfaction survey results. Holds self and staff accountable for service excellence in their areas of responsibility, and facilitates reward and recognition.
Acts as a liaison to other departments. Develops and maintains cooperative working relationships with physicians and other medical departments to gather and exchange information, develop and deploy solutions to problems. Help in developing, reviewing, revising, submitting and implementing policies, procedures and priorities that align with the Department and System priorities.
Helps in ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory and accrediting standards and departmental policies and protocols.
Provides patient care in the form of operation of the extracorporeal circulation equipment as required due to workload of complexity.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, chemistry and biology.
Knowledge of several cardiac disease, defects and congenital anomalies.
Knowledge of sterile and perfusion supplies: extracorporeal oxygenators, tubing circuits, and cannulae for adult, pediatric and infants.
Knowledge of arteries, veins, organs, and specific paths of blood flow throughout the body, of pressures and gas exchange within the body adult, pediatric and infant patients.
Knowledge of blood components, plasma composition of the human body and use of blood products in association by extracorporeal circuits and devices.
Skill in operating extracorporeal circulation and autotransfusion equipment.
Verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to learn and apply regulatory and accreditation standards and protocols that apply to operating room procedures and departmental policies and protocols.
Ability to make tactical selections around the allocation and direction of the work of supervised employees using established guidelines, policies and/or procedures.
Ability to make effective hiring and termination recommendations.
Ability to train, and evaluate performance of supervised staff.
General computer skills, including but not limited to: Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email.
