Job Summary:

Under moderate supervision, this individual is expected to set up, conduct investigations and support clinical research projects/studies in the Holowatyj Laboratory and Team. The Research Assistant is expected to follow protocols, including the appropriate recording of data and reporting of standard or variant results, as well as all regulations for human subjects research. This position will also assist in other laboratory and clinical study functions, including daily research operations. This individual will be expected to support study conduct and procedures, as well as support data processing in the laboratory.

Qualifications:
* Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Computer Sciences, Biochemistry or another
relevant scientific discipline (or equivalent experience) (Required)
* Clinical research experience in oncology setting (Preferred)
* Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, team player, and
demonstrated research laboratory skills (Required)
* Prior experience analyzing sequencing/-omics data
* Coding experience
* R statistical software experience

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Under moderate supervision, perform clinical research duties and data analyses

• Record, compile, interpret, and communicate data/results

• Follow University safety protocols (may include use of combustibles, radioactivity, toxic material, and/or carcinogens)

• Prepare, operate and troubleshoot equipment in experimental procedures

• Assure research information is collected and stored in a manner that is compliant with regulations/policies and good clinical practice

• Exhibit the capability to understand and follow a clinical/translational study protocol and data analysis pipeline, obtaining training and seeking assistance when needed, to safely and accurately perform or assess required protocol procedures. Uses coordination skills and works collaboratively with study participants, other staff and departments to complete research protocols, including performing study procedures

• Support Holowatyj Laboratory Biorepository and databases with awareness and attention to the requirements for accuracy, completeness and timeliness. Attend to query resolution in a timely manner

• Perform ongoing checks of biospecimen data that has been entered into the Biorepository database

• Distribute sample kits and process samples received in the Holowatyj Lab per standard operating procedures

• Read and follow all equipment manuals

• Maintain and repair equipment according to manufacturer and University guidelines

• Ensure Laboratory is consistently prepared for experiments and data processing in a timely manner

• Maintain sterile conditions as required

• Coordinate activities and gathers information from a variety of sources to achieve Laboratory goals and outcomes

• Demonstrate an understanding of acceptable procedures and techniques

• Recognize problems and suggest solutions

• Assist in modifications as directed

• Assist the Principal Investigator in the development of Laboratory/data protocols

• Provide appropriate written documentation of experiments

• Prepare preliminary research progress reports

• Summarize test results appropriately

• Supervise, mentor and train new or junior research staff/interns

• With direction, perform or instruct others in performing procedures for research as they are described in standard operating protocols in the lab

• Conveys a basic knowledge and understanding of policies, procedures, and regulations governing human subjects research and incorporates them in the conduct of laboratory research

• Collaboratively participate in study team meetings. Maintain open and positive communications with investigators, participants, co-workers, other departments and sponsors

• Actively identify and participate in training, education, and development activities to improve own knowledge and performance to sustain and enhance professional development. Pursue avenues to continue education (i.e., in-services, seminars, etc.)

• Demonstrate initiative for continuous learning, both self-directed and as evidenced by attendance of educational and professional development opportunities. Actively seek new learning opportunities, seeing learning as part of work
