About the opportunity:
The Director of Mid-Revenue Cycle is responsible for strategic leadership and direction for the overall operations of the mid-revenue cycle for the Health System. Responsible for providing strategic planning, leadership, and operational support for the leadership and responsibility of the medical records, Charge Description Master?s (CDM), strategic pricing, hospital and professional coding, mid-revenue cycle optimization and the Clinical Documentation Integrity Program.Oversees the HIM and Revenue Integrity departments including personnel and resources which support proper maintenance of Vail Health and related entity medical records consistent with the standards of The Joint Commission, Medicare Conditions of Participation, HIPAA, and hospital policies.
What you will do:
Maintains key performance indicators established in collaboration with the VP of Revenue Cycle equal to or better than the top 25th percentile of national benchmarks.
Provides overall strategic direction and leadership to all mid-revenue cycle operations through the health system.
Develops annual operating and capital budgets for the HIM and Revenue Integrity departments, monitors performance, and takes action as necessary to address budget variances. Supports the organization's strategic planning efforts by forecasting capital and HIM initiatives for three (3) to five (5) years in advance. Oversees purchases and resources used by HIM and Revenue Integrity departments.
Identifies strategic staffing needs for the HIM and Revenue Integrity departments to meet needs of organization.
Builds and supports effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders and organizations. Develops partnerships, coordinates activities, review work, exchanges information, and/or resolves problems related to HIM/revenue integrity programs and continuous improvement initiatives.
Participates as a subject-matter expert and may lead or facilitate task forces, teams, and/or councils to plan, implement and coordinate programs, services, and/or activities for the organization.
Provides strategic guidance to clinical and other senior management leaders in identifyingoptimal pricing strategy to maximize value to the organization.
Guides HIM and Revenue Integrity leaders in development of best practice productivity targets, metrics, and performance goals.
Works collaboratively with Revenue Cycle leadership to define and implement tactical efforts in order to achieve Revenue Cycle's Strategic goals.
Working closely with the Information Technology ("IT") department, researches, recommends, and implements cost effective technology solutions that facilitate effective and efficient operation of the Mid-Revenue Cycle Department.
Works closely with the Director of Patient Financial Services ("PFS") to track and monitor denials. Ensures a timely and appropriate responseproviding the best opportunity for the organization to receive funds. Makes appropriate changes to coding or other practices within the mid-revenue cycle functions to reduce the number of denials.
Endeavors to maintain staff engagement and satisfaction scores for responsible departments based on periodic internal surveys at or above the stated organizational goal.
Maintains a working knowledge of Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Office for Civil Rights, and The Joint Commission regulations and participates in all aspects of surveys.
Demonstrates privacy compliance through exemplary HIPAA day-to-day practice.
Advances one's education to ensuring competency in managing a state-of-the art HIM department.
Role models the principles of a Just Culture and Organizational Values.

What you will need:
Experience:
Minimum of five years of experience in Health Information Management
Four years of experience in a management or supervisory role
Work related knowledge and extensive experience with administration of HIPAA regulations pertaining to privacy and Health Information Management
License(s):
N/A
Certification(s):
Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) by the American Health Information Management Association required.
Certification as Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) would be accepted with an additional 2 years of management experience
Computer / Typing:
Familiarity with electronic medical records - Cerner experience preferred.
Must possess Microsoft® skills with Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Must possess the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirement s for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
Must have working knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English.
Education:
Bachelor?s Degree in Healthcare required. Master?s degree preferred.
Associate?s degree accepted with an additional 2 years of management experience.
