A Clinical Nurse II (CN II) is a competent clinician who provides nursing care in a skilled and effective manner. A CNII Independently prioritizes & delivers dependable and effective patient care in a variety of patient situations using the nursing process utilizing appropriate decision-making skills. A CNII exhibits competence in the technical, interpersonal, and cognitive skills required to independently and safely manage routine patient assignments. The Clinical Nurse II begins to develop its mentorship skills under the leadership of experienced and expert clinicians on their unit. Drives the mentee-mentor relationship to identify gaps in skills, practice, and knowledge to achieve desired goals. A CNII establishes a plan of care, sets goals, determines priorities, and provides care within established standards of practice.
The scope of responsibility, duties, and accountability at the facility department and position levels including knowledge and practice of the clinical/technical skills necessary to the position consistent with the Nurse Practice Act. Nursing job duties are to meet the Nurse Practice Act, Title 22, The Joint Commission and the Plan for Provision of Nursing Care and the Plan for Provision of Care to Patients, and other regulatory requirements.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides and accurately documents direct and indirect patient care services that ensure the safety, comfort, personal hygiene, and protection of patients in a timely manner.
Provides care and patient education on disease prevention and restorative measures.
Provides direct and indirect care services, including, but not limited to, the administration of medications and therapeutic agents necessary to implement treatment, disease prevention, or rehabilitative plan of care.
Performs skin tests, immunizations, phlebotomy, and the initiation of peripheral venous access.
Observe signs and symptoms of illness, reactions to medications/treatments, general behavior, and/or general physical condition.
Demonstrates refined assessment skills, integrating appropriate data sources to assess the signs, symptoms, reactions, behaviors, or general appearance to determine normal versus abnormal characteristics.
Plans and implements individualized patient care based on observations. Implements appropriate reporting, referrals, and care in accordance with standardized procedures. Initiates emergency procedures when indicated.
Provides care to special patient populations and patients with diverse cultural backgrounds. Identifies patient?s readiness for learning and ability to follow directions/instructions and give consent.
Demonstrates knowledge and is able to identify and make special adjustments as required to the specific population's needs, including cultural, spiritual, age, psychosocial, communication, gender, sexual orientation, economic, education, family, and condition needs.
Participates in evidence-based improvement initiatives and/or councils/committees that improve nursing outcomes and the work environment in their unit/department.
Identifies and assesses patient safety concerns with respect to age and developmental considerations. Intervenes to provide a safe environment and evaluates the effectiveness of intervention for patients.
Department Specific Responsibilities:
Oversees multiple research studies as protocol liaison, and works with the nurse manager to ensure staff involved in patient care meet all training requirements. Collaborates with the study team to ensure clear, accurate execution of study protocols, treatment procedures, and research orders.
Travels to offsite locations, including Cedars-Sinai Medical Center inpatient units and other affiliated locations, to provide nursing care for clinical trial participants.
Collects, handles, and processes research specimens following protocol requirements. Records vital signs, medications, research compounds administered, and patient responses in medical records and data sheets.
Provide education and support to inpatient nurses regarding research-specific aspects of care for patients involved in clinical trials.
Provides direct nursing care to adult and pediatric research participants. Administers medications, therapeutic agents, and other treatments according to research protocols and physician orders. Supports high-risk procedures, including infusion of investigational drugs including but not limited to gene therapy, immunotherapy, Chemotherapy, and sedation. Responds to emergencies by initiating appropriate procedures.
Qualifications
Education:
An associate's Degree in Nursing (ASN) or a College Diploma in Nursing is required, but a bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.
License and Certifications:
Valid California RN license and current Basic Life Support certification are required.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and ONC Chemotherapy & Immunotherapy Certification are required within one (1) year of hire.
ANCC Specialty Certification is preferred.
Experience and Skills:
One (1) Year of acute care experience in a specialty is required.
Working knowledge of Nursing Practice Act, The Joint Commission, and other state and local regulatory requirements including perioperative standards when applicable.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills. And has full command (verbal and written) of the English language.
Knowledgeable and proficient in the use of healthcare technology within specialty areas.
Demonstrates commitment to customer service and an ability to meet the needs and expectations of patients and healthcare colleagues.
Demonstrated success working independently, forging relationships, and managing multiple tasks with minimal directions.
High level of proficiency using Microsoft Windows and other Microsoft Office software: MS Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint Word, etc.
Ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative information for decision support.
Must be able to manage competing priorities, while being extremely adaptable and flexible and maintaining a positive work environment.
