The Indiana University School of Public Health?Bloomington (SPH?B) invites applications for the position of Chair and Tenured Professor in the Department of Health and Wellness Design. We are seeking applicants with strong research, leadership, and administrative records, who value our many disciplines within Health and Wellness Design, and who will be champions for faculty, student, and staff success.
We are seeking individuals who will contribute multidisciplinary perspectives, conceptual and methodological diversity, and research leadership and mentoring strengths to the Department’s efforts toward academic excellence. This 12-month appointment would ideally start August 1, 2025, although an earlier or later start date is negotiable. The School of Public Health-Bloomington is located on the flagship campus of Indiana University and is comprised of over 200 faculty across five departments. the Department of Health and Wellness Design maintains strong connections to other departments in the School of Public Health-Bloomington and other schools across Indiana University. Continuing the momentum of hiring over 60 outstanding tenure-track/tenured faculty over the last two three years, the SPH-B is launching another wave of faculty recruitment.
The Department of Health and Wellness Design offers a B.S. in Recreation, M.S. in Recreation, M.P.H. with emphasis in Parks and Recreation (online), and a Ph.D. in Leisure Behavior, and focuses on infusing health, happiness, and well-being into organizational structures where people live, work, govern, and play. Areas of study include aging, disability, chronic illness; health behavior intervention research; health equity and social determinants of health; informatics, technology, and digital health; brain health and mental health; patient experience; nonpharmacologic therapies and models of care; and various approaches to design and innovation including human-centered design, community-based participatory research, and implementation science. The Department of Health & Wellness Design strives to educate and prepare the next generation of leaders to maximize the human experience and empower people to live-well. Our students embark in diverse and exciting career paths that can vary from businesses, health care management, recreation therapy, tourism and hospitality management, state and local parks and recreation, government public health, nonprofit organizations, universities, and research centers.
Responsibilities: The chair will provide inspirational and practical leadership for research, teaching, and service; manage the budget and secure financial resources to meet program objectives; actively assist with fundraising activities; represent the department on external committees and to groups; oversee operations of the department’s undergraduate and graduate teaching programs and The Center for Health by Design (CHxD); recruit and mentor outstanding faculty, staff, and students; and facilitate productive interaction among faculty, staff, students, and alumni. It is expected that the successful candidate will work closely with the dean to further the school’s goals and research mission.
