Position Type: Full time
Location: Coleman Hall

Job Summary:
Job Duties:
The Department of Religious Studies at Bucknell University invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor in Religion and Ethics, to begin August 2025. Teaching load is six courses for the academic year, three per semester. Teaching responsibilities include Introduction to Ethics; Environmental Ethics; and other courses in the field of Religion and Ethics. We welcome candidates with expertise in a range of religious traditions and interdisciplinary areas-including the relationship between ethics and the environment, health and medicine, gender and sexuality, race and ethnicity, colonialism, and secularism.
Candidates are expected to have a Ph.D. by start date.
The Department of Religious Studies at Bucknell serves its majors and minors, as well as a large number of students from across the university who are often encountering the academic study of religion for the first time. The ideal candidate will be a teacher-scholar with a demonstrated interest in working with a diverse student population at a primarily undergraduate liberal arts institution. Strong applications will address how the candidate's experiences, knowledge, skills, and/or past accomplishments will contribute to inclusive teaching. We encourage applications from members of groups that have been historically underrepresented in higher education.
Candidates should submit a cover letter, C.V., their statement of teaching philosophy, and a draft syllabus for a 100-level Introduction to Ethics course. Contact information for three reference writers will be requested later in the interview process, so that confidential letters may be obtained for those candidates that advance to the interview round. Applications will only be accepted through Bucknell's career site, careers.bucknell.edu. Questions should be directed to Professor John Penniman, Chair of the Department of Religious Studies (jdp033@bucknell.edu). Review of applications will begin on February 28th and continue until the position is filled.
