General Description of the Job
Perform a variety of advanced processing analysis of DICOM data to include 3D and 4D reformations. Quantitative analysis and volume measurements of radiologic DICOM image datasets and 3D printing.
Duties and Responsibilities of this role
Level I:
Under general supervision of the Multi-Dimensional Image Processing Lab's Supervisor and medical Director, the Multi-D Technologist manipulates digital medical images on advanced post processing workstations in multiple planes and dimensions for clinical visualization and quantitative analysis of diagnostic and interventional studies.
The Multi-D Technologist manages transfer of all image data to and from the Multi-D Lab workstations in an accurate and timely manner, and uses the available radiology information systems to acquire relevant patient history and examination status.
The Multi-D Technologist must be well versed in CT and MRI scanning technology, cross- sectional anatomy, and gross pathology. These skills and knowledge are essential to be able to identify artifacts in the images, and to be able to respond to clinicians' detailed requests for views depicting certain anatomy and/or pathology, measurements and guides to surgical planning.
Under HIPAA guidelines, any candidate is responsible for maintaining confidentiality of Patient Health Information (PHI) in all Multi-D Lab Databases and reporting systems. Required systems access: Visage (PACS), and Electronic Medical Records (EMR), Powerscribe and multiple private drives for research and clinical purposes.
The Multi-D Technologist must have working knowledge of file systems, image transfer types and a general knowledge of databases and computers. The Multi-D Technologist must also learn to manage Tumor Measurement Applications, De-identification and 3D segmentation for printing.
Some duties of the Multi-D Lab directly relate to research programs. Multi-D staff work with sponsored research projects to provide advanced image post-processing and quantitative assessments. Experienced interpersonal communication is required for providing the requested digital images and sharing information with staff. Professional training and guidance for internal and external staff are daily duties of Multi-D Lab.
Multi-D Technologist will be called to participate in development of new scan protocols and post- processing protocols as needed. Additional duties may include working on special projects, such as creating documentation of procedures and instructions to be shared with CT and MRI technologists, new software evaluations and assisting in selecting of new software packages and their set-up, or assignment to departmental committees.
Education:
REQUIRED Post High School education in a specialized field: Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology or other imaging program.
Experience:
REQUIRED 3-4 years clinical experience in radiology technology with cross-sectional anatomy.
Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification:
REQUIRED Current American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider CPR certification; Heart Saver, Rescue and Military training network CPR; or the American Red Cross CPR certification (CPR)
American Registry of Radiologic Technology Registered Technologist-Radiography (ARRT) Computed Tomography (ARRT-CT) or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (ARRT-MRI) certification
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
REQUIRED A clear understanding of cross-sectional anatomy to be able to recognize scan artifacts and abnormal anatomy/pathology in 3D images. Excellent interpersonal interaction and communication (oral, written, presentation) skills. Ability to perform tasks accurately with attention to detail, changing from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure.
Ability to function independently and competently in stressful situations. Responds positively to changes in the work environment related to changing patient needs. Ability to work cooperatively within the health-system, co-workers, and multidisciplinary team members (i.e. physicians, Patient Care Services staff members, etc.). Ability to utilize effective time management to set priorities, perform job related responsibilities, and respond quickly to emergency situations. Ability to use analytical and critical thinking skills to effectively problem-solve.
DESIRED Experience with 3D and/or multiplanar reformatting on advanced 3D imaging workstations
Distinguishing Characteristics of this Level 1
Operates computer software for production of 3D images and multiplanar reconstructions from CT and MRI datasets for optimal visualization of patient's anatomic structures and pathology, using established 3D prost-processing protocols.
Works in conjunction with radiologists and other clinicians to ensure that the post processed images are of maximal clinical value.
Produces quantitative measurements when indicated.
Ensures that images requiring post processing or manipulation are networked to appropriate workstations, and processed images are networked to PACS and other viewing or archival systems in a timely manner.
Consistentlyachieves established benchmarks for productivity and quality.
FollowsQuality Control procedures. Uses EPIC and Weblog to check patient medical history and update exam status, for tracking, order entry (when applicable) and billing purposes.
