The CUNY School of Medicine (CUNY MED) is the only medical school in the City University of New York system. CUNY MED graduated its first MD class in 2020. In addition, the CUNY MED offers a two-year Physician Assistant (PA) program to prepare health professionals licensed to practice medicine with physician supervision. Our mission is 1) to provide access to medical education to talented youth from historically underrepresented in backgrounds in medicine and to develop health professionals committed to practicing in under-served communities and 2) to perform innovative research in community health and biomedicine.

In addition to the above details, the faculty hire’s responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Enhance institutional research capacity in translational health disparities research and enable research grant principals and investigators to continue their competitive extramural support by studying health disparities across a spectrum of approaches, including basic science mechanisms, clinical trials, AI, and community-engaged research.

Located in the heart of Harlem, the CUNY School of Medicine builds on the successful Sophie Davis Biomedical Educational Program which was founded in 1973 to recruit and train students from diverse backgrounds for careers as physicians. Proud of this 50-year legacy, CUNY Medicine remains committed to increasing diversity in medical professions, meeting the needs of underserved communities, and changing the way the nation approaches medical education and delivers healthcare.
The mission of the CUNY School of Medicine (CUNY Medicine) is to produce broadly-educated, highly-skilled and diverse medical practitioners to provide quality health services to communities historically underserved by primary care practitioners. The School will recruit and educate a diverse, talented pool of students to the BS/MD and Physician Assistant programs, expanding access to medical education to individuals from underserved communities, of limited financial resources, and of racial/ethnic backgrounds historically underrepresented in the medical profession.
Programs of the CUNY School of Medicine achieve academic excellence through rigorous curricula in clinically-oriented basic sciences, population health, research, exposure to a variety of health care settings, and professional development.
