The role you’ll contribute:
GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Patient Care Technician I (PCT I) is responsible to perform duties as assigned and directed by the
licensed nurse in compliance with established process standards, structure standards and protocols of
assigned units. The PCT I works in cooperation with all team members to accomplish departmental goals
and objectives. The primary function is the delivery of competent, compassionate and cost effective
patient care.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs as a team member in administering safe and effective patient care.
Ensures personal hygiene and comfort care is delivered to the patient daily and as needed.
Maintains the privacy of all patients.
Ensures patient environment is neat and clean.
Answers calls promptly.
Assesses skin condition on all patients for potential breakdown and communicates with the licensed nurse.
Maintains a safe environment.
Completes treatments, procedures and documentation as directed by the licensed nurse.
Obtains vital signs per unit policy and reports abnormal findings immediately to the licensed nurse.
Demonstrates competencies in all procedures within scope of practice and as appropriate to the ages of the patients served.
Professional Standards
Communicates patient care or management problems to appropriate person.
Communicates effectively, to appropriate individuals to meet the needs of patients,
family members and visitors and reports to the licensed nurse.
Reports malfunctioning equipment to the licensed nurse.
Actively participates in: staff meetings, committees, mandatory in-services, and educational programs/offerings relevant to area of practice.
Demonstrates competency and recognizes own skills, abilities and limitations and is accountable for own actions.
Seeks/solicits help or guidance from resource person when appropriate.
Functions in a professional manner during emergency or crisis situations.
Demonstrates knowledge of emergency procedures, fire drills, evacuation procedures and internal/external disaster plans.
Completes work on time
Utilizes time clock/time and attendance records to document attendance appropriately.
Uses proper notification for use of unscheduled personal leave time.
Utilizes the principles of cost containment by conserving equipment, supplies and personal time (including personal calls and personal visits)
Performs as a team member in assisting with safe and effective patient care.
Ensures personal hygiene and comfort care is delivered to all patients.
Ensures patient rooms are neat and clean.
Responds to nurse/patient intercom system in a timely manner.
Maintains a safe patient care environment.
Obtains vital signs per unit standard, reports abnormal findings to the licensed nurse.
Obtains, prepares and delivers specimens to lab according to policy and procedure.
Transports patients as directed by licensed nursing personnel.
Evaluates patients on an ongoing basis and administers preventative measures when indicated.
Demonstrates competency in the application and care of the patient in restraints under the direction of the licensed nurse.
Applies orthopedic splints to upper and lower extremities under the supervision of the licensed nurse and performs appropriate documentation.
Responds to various emergency department codes and performs tasks as delegated (ie. CPR, EKG).
Completes treatments, procedures, and documentation as directed per licensed nurse.
Acts as a communication liaison for the patient, family and interdisciplinary healthcare team.
Frequently review tracking board for obtaining and/or completion of labs and test
Provides clerical unit secretary assistance.
Assists in the facilitation and the transferring of patients to other healthcare facilities under the direction of the licensed nurse.
Understands and utilizes the electronic computer system and proficiently uses theelectronic medical record. Efficiently uses computer downtime procedures.
Assists in controlling cost to the patient and the department.Utilizes the principles of cost containment by conserving equipment, supplies,personal time to ensure charges are properly recorded. Stocks patient rooms utilizing par level system.
Communicates effectively to appropriate individuals to meet the needs of patients, family and environment.Functions in a professional and calm manner during emergent/crisis situations.
Qualifications
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Knowledge and skills equivalent to a nursing student in the second year of study
American Heart Association Healthcare BLS certification
Demonstrates effective communication skills, both oral and written.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
Minimum of 1 year work experience.
CNA License in State of Georgia
