Duties DescriptionDivision of Epidemiology: Provide leadership, epidemiologic guidance, consultation, and clinical direction in the Division of Epidemiology, with a primary focus on tuberculosis prevention, control, and treatment and refugee health. Additional duties might relate to general communicable disease, healthcare-associated infections, and vaccine-preventable diseases. Provide epidemiologic and general public health guidance to healthcare providers, schools, hospitals, nursing homes, local health departments, correctional facilities, other state agencies, and other stakeholders across New York State. Develop policy and clinical guidance documents. Develop and evaluate the design and implementation of scientific studies, particularly in relation to tuberculosis and refugee health, that assess the effectiveness of disease surveillance, investigation, and interventions in various healthcare and community settings. Conduct epidemiologic research and prepare reports and manuscripts for publication. Supervise and mentor staff as needed and participate as needed in public health duties and responses throughout the Department and particularly within the Division of Epidemiology.
Minimum QualificationsCurrent license and registration to practice medicine in New York State, AND board-eligible or board-certified in a medical specialty AND either a master’s degree in public health or one-year experience in a public health program.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience or education in communicable disease surveillance and epidemiology; experience or training in tuberculosis surveillance, control, or treatment; demonstrated interest in tuberculosis surveillance, control, or treatment; experience in a governmental public health organization. Travel as needed for Division of Epidemiology.
Additional CommentsPermanent, non-competitive. This position may be filled in either Albany, Buffalo, New Rochelle, New York, Rochester, or Syracuse.
For new State employees appointed to graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.
The above referenced salary is reflective of an 80% work schedule.
