Job Summary:
The Mental Health Counselor & Disabilities Services Coordinator plays a pivotal role in fostering the psychological well-being and academic success of students within the AdventHealth University (AHU) community. Reporting directly to the Director of Counseling, this individual is dedicated to delivering high-quality, inclusive counseling services and coordinating comprehensive support for students with disabilities. Through a blend of empathetic counseling, strategic program development, and coordination of disability accommodations, the Coordinator ensures that all students have equitable access to educational opportunities and mental health support.
The position requires a proactive approach to identifying and addressing the diverse needs of the student body, facilitating individual and group counseling sessions, and working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and external resources to enhance the accessibility of campus services. The Mental Health Counselor & Disabilities Services Coordinator is also responsible for staying current with best practices and legal requirements in mental health and disability services, advocating for the rights and needs of students, and contributing to a campus environment that values health, accessibility, and inclusion. This role demands a high level of interpersonal skills, ethical professionalism, and a commitment to fostering an environment of respect, support, and continuous improvement. The Mental Health Counselor & Disabilities Services Coordinator participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
You Will Be Responsible For:
Demonstrates behaviors at AdventHealth University in harmony with AHU’s “Four Words” of Nurture, Excellence, Spirituality, and Stewardship as well as AdventHealth’s Performance Standards of “Keep Me Safe, Love Me, Make it Easy, and Own It.”
Delivers a range of counseling services, including individual, couples, and group sessions, adopting a brief and focused approach tailored to meet the diverse needs of the student population
Facilitates referrals for students requiring extended support for personal, social, or academic challenges, ensuring seamless connection to necessary resources that promote academic success
Engages in proactive collaboration with faculty and staff to address concerns related to student behavioral and emotional well-being, fostering a supportive campus environment
Oversees the development, organization, and provision of reasonable accommodations, including academic adjustments and auxiliary aids, for students with a variety of disabilities, ensuring equitable access to educational opportunities
Collaborates closely with the University Testing Center Coordinator to facilitate timely and appropriate exam accommodations for students with documented disabilities, ensuring equal access to assessment opportunities in alignment with academic standards and regulatory compliance
Conducts comprehensive evaluations to determine eligibility for disability services, ensuring a fair and inclusive approach to support
Prepares and disseminates letters of accommodation, organizes appropriate accommodations, and conducts follow-up meetings to ensure the effectiveness of support provided
Liaises with faculty, staff, and external agencies to coordinate services and auxiliary aids, enhancing the overall support framework for students
Qualifications
What You Will Need:
Bachelor’s degree in mental health counseling, school psychology, clinical psychology, OR related field and three (3) years of experience in higher education OR equivalent counseling experience
Experience working in post-secondary education
Demonstrated ability to accurately assess students' personal, academic, and social needs, and to devise tailored intervention strategies that effectively address these needs
Advanced individual and group communication skills, capable of facilitating impactful group presentations and fostering constructive dialogues
Proficiency in the use of student information systems and general electronic software systems, ensuring efficient retrieval and management of student data
Strong interpersonal skills to engage effectively with a diverse, multicultural, and multilingual community, promoting an inclusive and supportive environment
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
License or license-eligible for counseling in the states of Florida and Colorado
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
Master’s degree in mental health counseling, school psychology, clinical psychology, OR related field and five (5) years of experience in higher education OR equivalent counseling experience
