The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Clinical Genetics and Metabolism at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in New Orleans, is seeking a full-time academic Pediatric Geneticist to join our genetics group. The Division currently is comprised of one geneticist, two nurse coordinators, one dietician and is actively recruiting genetic counselors.
Academic appointment will be open rank (non-tenure, clinical track). The successful candidate must hold an M.D. or D.O. degree and will participate in a broad range of clinical genetics activities. Primary clinical responsibilities for the position include patient care in a variety of settings including inpatient consultations at Children’s Hospital New Orleans as well as outpatient genetics clinics throughout the region. In addition to general pediatric genetics clinics, specialty clinics focus on neurofibromatosis, Down syndrome, craniofacial, vascular anomalies, cardio-genetics and metabolic disorders. The Division serves as one of Louisiana’s primary referral centers for evaluation of infants with positive newborn screens for metabolic diseases. The Division operates several outreach clinics primarily in South Louisiana and offers tele-genetic services. Educational responsibilities include supervision and instruction of medical students, residents, and other learners from the multi-disciplinary LSUHSC community. Faculty members are expected to contribute to the advancement of scholarly or educational activities within the Department. There are abundant opportunities for educational, clinical, translational, and quality and research initiatives across the health sciences center.
The Department of Pediatrics and Division of Clinical Genetics and Metabolism are located predominantly at Children’s Hospital New Orleans. Children’s Hospital is home to the Departments of Pediatrics of both LSUHSC and Tulane University, which allows opportunities for cooperation. Children’s Hospital is a 229-bed, not-for-profit Pediatric medical center offering a complete range of healthcare services for children from birth to 21 years. Candidates must be board-certified or board-eligible (or equivalent) in Medical Genetics and Genomics and licensed to practice medicine in the state of Louisiana before appointment. Academic appointment will be open rank, determined by the candidate’s experience and scholarly achievements.
