The Wellness Center is responsible for promoting and supporting the health, wellness and well-being of the Bowie State University Students. The Wellness Center is a resource to Students seeking primary, acute, reproductive health and specialty care services. The Wellness Center also actively engages in outreach to promote well-being for the entire Bowie State University community. Bowie State University seeks a Provider with integrity that will provide the highest standard of care to Students and actively contribute to community health and well-being.
Provides out-patient general medical/surgical nursing care to students and personnel. Interviews and evaluates patients, makes judgments regarding patient assessment, provides for comprehensive patient education when treating patients, and participates in outreach programs.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides professional clinical medical services, including acute episodic illness and/or injury, chronic disease management, and health maintenance.
Provides and medical care and promotes the health and safety of all eligible students at Bowie State University in a collaborative manner.
Performs medical examinations and evaluations, diagnoses, treatments, follow-up appointments, consultations, and health promotion/education.
Conducts comprehensive health assessments of patients to diagnose and treat potential, acute and/or chronic health problems.
Accurately documents medical evaluations, diagnoses, procedures, treatments, outcomes, education, referrals, and consultations in a timely manner.
Orders, performs, and interprets medical tests with integrity and within stipulated deadlines and guidelines.
Refers patients to specialty care, as needed.
Participates in ongoing, relevant professional development, medical education courses (including HIPPA & OSHA training) health promotion and campus outreach activities, public health initiatives and other projects in collaboration with the Director and other members of the Wellness Team.
Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods per regulatory guidance.
Coordinates the activities of patient care and or/support staff in collaboration with other Provider(s), Wellness Team Members and the Director. Migher supervise at Director’s request.
Assists with medical supply inventory and management.
Conducts and coordinates quality assurance programs within the Wellness Center, including peer chart review, laboratory QC, STI reports and other activities, as needed or requested.
Duties as assigned.
Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects of 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than 4 hours per day.
Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous material and situations that require following extensive safety precautions, including the use of PPE.
Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required. Master’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
Certification and active, current licensure as an Adult, Family, Acute Care, and/or Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner.
Must be licensed in the State of Maryland.
Must be credentialed by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
Must be CPR/AED certified.
EXPERIENCE:
Must have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in an ambulatory care setting.
Experience with performing clinical operations and procedures.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work effectively with various constituencies in a community brimming with diversity.
Knowledge of health education theory and practice. Knowledge of health promotion theory and practice is helpful.
Current, working knowledge of patient care charts and patient histories.
Ability to operate with and maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
Knowledge of and adherence to all related accreditation and certification requirements.
Ability to supervise and train employees and students, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments. NOTE: Supervision of others might only occur in collaboration with Director, other Provider(s) and other Wellness Team Members.
Working and applied knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for delivery of medical evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment in area of expertise.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
All credentials and licenses must be active at all times during employment or employment could be terminated without notice.
May require some overtime (planned and unplanned).

COMPENSATION: $95,000 - $105,000
