The Rebecca D. Considine Research Institute (RDCRI) is seeking a highly motivated and talented Research Scientist to join our esteemed research institute dedicated to the exploration of Palliative Care Medicine. This Research Scientist position will play a crucial role in advancing our understanding of the impact of acute and complex chronic diseases and contribute to the development of innovative diagnostic tools, treatment strategies, and the impact of these conditions on population and public health. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work alongside a multidisciplinary team of scientists, clinicians, and industry partners, with the goal of improving patient outcomes and transforming the field of childhood Palliative Care.
· The position is equivalent in rank to an academic Assistant, Associate or Full Professor, depending on experience.
· The applicant serves as a researcher, educator, and administrator within research, clinical and educational programs supported by the RDCRI, the Department of Pediatrics and Division of Palliative Care, and Akron Children's Hospital (ACH).
· The position reports to the Director of Scientific Affairs & Clinical Trials within the RDCRI
Responsibilities:
· Conduct Research: Design, plan, and execute independent research projects focused on Palliative Care. This includes performing experiments, analyzing data, and interpreting results using various scientific methodologies and techniques.
· Literature Review: Stay up to date with the latest advancements in the field of childhood Palliative Care and related disciplines. Conduct literature reviews to identify knowledge gaps and potential research avenues.
· Experimental Design, Data Analysis and Interpretation: Develop experimental protocols and methodologies to investigate the needs of children and their families as they relate to Palliative Care. Optimize experimental procedures and troubleshoot technical challenges as needed. Perform statistical analysis and data interpretation using appropriate software and tools. Draw meaningful conclusions from experimental results and present findings in a clear and concise manner.
· Collaboration and Teamwork: Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams of scientists, clinicians, regional academic and industry partners to foster a synergistic research environment. Contribute to team discussions, provide scientific insights, and actively participate in scientific meetings and conferences.
· Publication and Grant Writing: Prepare scientific manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals. Contribute to grant writing efforts to secure external funding for research projects and initiatives.
· Laboratory Management: Maintain laboratory equipment, supplies, and inventories. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and maintain accurate records of experimental procedures and results.
· Mentoring and Training: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior researchers including fellows, residents, students, research assistants as well as more senior collaborators, both inside ACH and with our academic partners. Foster a positive learning environment and assist in their professional development. The scientist will also work with providers and fellows in developing research questions and guide them through the process from ideation through dissemination.
· Administration & Operations: The scientist will communicate with finance, post award project coordinator, and all necessary research administrators for budget updates, changes, and plans and monitors expenditures.
o The scientist organizes and runs research meetings with clinical faculty on a regular basis and will be expected to have a NEOMED faculty appointment. Adjunct faculty appointments with regional partners are encouraged.
Other information:
M.D. and/or a Ph.D. in fields related to palliative medical care.
Strong background and research experience
Proficiency in public health, population health, informatics, or health services research methodologies
Demonstrated competency in data analysis, statistical tools, and scientific software.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively present research findings and prepare scientific presentations and manuscripts.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented research environment.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Experience in grant writing and securing research funding is desirable.
A track record of publications in high-impact scientific journals is preferred.
