Position Summary:
The Practice Clinical Supervisor provides leadership, guidance, and supervision of the clinical staff to ensure the provision of safe, quality care in an efficient and productive manner. The Clinical Supervisor will have demonstrated proficiency in the skills sets required to perform the duties of the clinical role. Participates in the interviewing, hiring and orientation of new clinical staff and guides the follow on training, competency assessment, and performance evaluation processes. Has broad knowledge base related to preventative care, immunizations across the life span. Operates clinical care equipment and performs phlebotomy. The Clinical Supervisor is an integral member of the practice site leadership team, supporting the Practice Manager, Practice Administrator and Managing Physician in the day to day clinical operations and management of practice site. Lead service excellence initiatives in support of internal and external customers and coordinates staff involvement in community events. Assumes management responsibilities in the absence of the Practice Manager or Practice Administrator.
Competencies:
Knowledge: Expertise in standard personal computer, Microsoft Office software, EMR and a computer based patient information systems, and master scheduling system. Working knowledge of electronic timekeeping system and insurance required. Strong knowledge of medical terminology and supply system required. Working knowledge of employee interviewing and hiring processes. Working knowledge of the performance evaluation and disciplinary processes. Working knowledge of patient specialty referral system. Working knowledge of Employee Engagement and Patient Safety Network. Working knowledge of Value Based Purchasing and Meaningful Use criteria. Strong knowledge of preventative care and immunizations across the life span.
Skills: Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal. Effective organizational and time management skills necessary to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and projects. Demonstrated project management skills. Demonstrated coaching, teaching and performance review process skills. Demonstrated commitment to service excellence for internal and external customers. Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the ages of the patients served in the department.
Work Experience: A minimum of three years of work experience in an acute care or primary care environment. Supervisory experience preferred.
Dimensions:
Budget Responsibility: Requires effective use of material and human resources and cost awareness. Monitors monthly profit and loss statements related to equipment and supply purchases.
Authority/Decision Making Level: Makes appropriate decisions, using available resources, to achieve positive outcomes for patients, visitors, and staff based on policies and sound business practices. Makes recommendations for improvements in departmental systems and processes and contributes ideas and suggestions for solutions. Ensures safe environment of care for patients, visitors, and staff. Responds to urgent and unplanned situations by assessing level of importance, instituting appropriate action and informing appropriate management. Prepares and submits PSN reports. Communicates staffing and operational decisions to appropriate management level. Prioritizes daily tasks and assignments appropriately.
Supervisory Responsibility: In collaboration with Practice Administrator and Practice Manager, responsible for scheduling, timekeeping, and payroll management. Shares responsibility for counseling, disciplining and recommending termination as well as interviewing, hiring and orientation in accordance with AMG policies and procedures.
Problem Solving: Uses specific body of knowledge and critical thinking to improve patient care processes and operational efficiency. Assures quality initiatives.
Information Management: Must understand and be able to accurately use HR forms, requisition supplies, process purchase orders, and submit and track patient specialty referrals. Reads and understands written product directions.
Working Conditions: Works in a typical ambulatory care environment where there are limited physical discomforts due to temperature, dust, noise, lighting, etc. Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents with little likelihood of harm if established health precautions are followed. Requires ability to stand, walk or sit for extended periods of time. Requires ability to move and transport patients with assistance. Overtime, on-call, shift work and the use of staff sharing at other work locations may be required.

- Medical Waste Generator ID and reporting
- Ensuring Clinical Competencies (new hires and annual) are done
- Vaccine storage and emergency handling/alarms
- Monthly quality care checklist
- Clinical workflows
- Clinical supply ordering
- Infection control
- Time reporting/call outs/time off (API)
- HRO Scheduling
- Location patient/staff liaison when at the location
- Participate on office committee meetings
- Attend quarterly Department meetings
- Ensure staff coverage for all locations when requested
- Monitor EPIC clinical inbasket
- Disburse clinical information to all clinical staff and MD's
- Hold/attend staff meetings/huddles (nurses, RT's, CMA's)
